I'm not very good with computers. I still have Windows 7, because when I tried to download Windows 10, it crashed my computer.
Anyway, I keep getting a message from "Driver Update" stating that I need 15 new drivers. It looked official...from Microsoft. When I went to download them, it asked for my credit card. Since when do you need to pay for drivers? Or is this just a scam? I would appreciate any help. Thank you!

Sounds like a scam to me.
Wjhenever I get that kind of possible scam, I do not click. If it looks offical and IS offrcicial, I can sign myself into Microsoft without clicking on any links!!!! If it isn't on the official website, it's a scam for sure.

It's a scam or virus of some kind. Never have paid to update a driver. Search online for Driver Update virus or scam & see what you find.

You should run a Anti- Malware program Malwarebytes. https://www.malwarebytes.org/antimalware/

My techie friend has always helped me find drivers online. No charge. And the suggestion to run Malwarebytes is a good one. It's free. Just make sure you're downloading the free one.

You may want to consider buying the realtime scanner or run the scanner everyday. The license for the real scanner is for a year.

We use Malwarbytes. Don't know why I did not think of that. We have the paid version. We bought it when it was a one time fee so we don't have to pay the yearly charge.

I have only 2 drivers (printer and scanner). I have NEVER paid for an update or even for a new driver downloaded from the manufacturer's website. I suspect you've seen a scam

That came loaded on this new laptop. DS deleted it. There was a lot of junk loaded on here all deleted now.
