We have Macs. The only ""protection plan"" we use is Apple Care.

I just got mail from BB that my plan is expiring and if I want to renew it for $149.99. That's a lot of money and I think I'm not renewing it. I always take out plans for my electronics and never need to use them. I'm thinking I probably spent the same amount last year and $300 for a 2 year protection plan is too much. What does anyone else think?
$300 can buy you the better part of a new iPad if and when you need one, trash that email
We never buy extended warranties. They are a money maker for the company selling them,

Not everyone has the knowledge or skills to do that or the desire to acquire either. I do it for all my own computers, but the idea of my mom trying to do that when she still has issues with the concepts of logins and passwords - there's just no way.

It's too bad people don't learn to use what they own. I guess those who repair or update computers are happy they don't.

Updating drivers is about as uncomplicated as it gets.
I wonder if the poster meant that something was wrong with the DRIVE. (?)

If anyone chooses to use an American Express card to purchase electronics, they double the manufacturer's warranty up to one year. I verified this with them and they sent me the information before we purchased my son's new computer... He doesn't have an Amex card, but I do, so we put it on my card just for the double warranty. The manufacturer's warranty runs for a year, then the American Express coverage takes effect (same as the manufacturer's warranty), so if you have a problem in the second year, it's still covered. You just have to have your original receipt showing the description of the item and the fact that it was charged to American Express.

That would make more sense.
