At my age (70), I find the smaller screens on cellphones and tablets (though convenient and less cumbersome) rather challenging - I can't imagine trying to watch TV or a movie on one.

Plus, I prefer a full-size keyboard and I still need to print a few documents (at least once or twice a week).

So, a basic and inexpensive Laptop will likely always be in my possession.

iPad mostly just for "fun stuff"...ordering...Facebook scrolling...etc...

@SeaMaiden My husband does the banking. He doesn't own an IPad.

I have always used a computer for work and now have a 15 inch laptop which I use for all banking etc. Love having a regular size keyboard with real keys!

Scaling down to a 4-5 inch screen seems ridiculous. I NEVER put any banking info on my phone, and sending a text of any length makes my sisters laugh with all the typos and wrong keys hit.

I would get rid of my "smart" phone before I'd ever get rid of my laptop.

I have a MacBook Air and an I phone. The phone is used as a phone and I down loaded 1 game that's it.

I have an MacBook Air and use that to email, text, do any shopping and banking and surfing the web.

I also use the laptop for work...emailing with customers and sending and receiving attachments. I don't know if an IPad would allow me to send and receive attachments, I use a thumb drive a lot.

Sad @LavernLuvsShoes how society has become addicted to technology. You see it all the time in the stores, people looking at cell phones and screens. It's bizarre behavior. Glad it wasn't around in the 1950s and 60s. I do own a computer but have no desire to carry a phone around with me 24/7. The addiction is a big reason our young people are suffering from anxiety and depression at staggering rates.

I got an iPad a while back as kind of a hand me down. Once I learned how to use it I was hooked!

My desktop, an HP Pavilion, was great. It was an older one, with a disk so I could play DVD's. But right before Christmas it died and couldn't be repaired. It's very hard to find a new one with a DVD slot.

I liked my iPad so much, so I told DH I'd like to have a Mac. I'm STILL learning how to use my new laptop.

I do a lot of writing, printing, and power point. I have to have a computer that will print easily. I also design cards.

@Jordan2 - If you don't do much word processing I think you could get away with your iPad alone.

As I posted earlier, all of these devices ARE computers. What type of computer you need in your daily life depends on how you use one and what functions you need. I know plenty of people who only have an iPad and do just fine. I disliked mine so much, I gave it away and never looked back. The advice I always give is buy the best device to meet your computing needs and you can afford. If you like Apple products, the small notebook/laptop computer are only slightly bigger than an iPad and much more functional.
