Re: Do I Even Need A Computer

Have a couple Amazon fire tablets & phone & that's enough for me. Will probably never buy a computer again. Tablets are so easy; love them.

Your iPad IS a computer.  You can do all that you described and more.

@Jordan2 .. I have an Apple MacBook Air at home which meets all my needs.  I don't need a computer.   However, whether you want to purchase a computer or laptop I would suggest that you don't purchase it from QVC.  They sell outdated models at outrageous prices with useless extras.

Your Macbook Air is a computer.  Tables are computers. Smart phones are computers. Smart watches are computers.  Only the person buying a device can decide which type of computer meets the finacial and computing needs.  I don't have a tablet because I don't like them and others love them.  I don't use my phone as my main computr and I know people who do.  Pick what fits you.

Re: Do I Even Need A Computer

Now that I'm retired, I don't need a computer.  I rarely use my laptop now.  It's probably the last one I will ever have.  I loved my Chromebook, when it reader it's EOL, I bought a laptop so I could use for work stuff that I couldn't do on a Chromebook.  Now it just sits there because I use my phone and my tablet for everything.

So, as I have stated my Chromebook will not get updates as of June 1. If I'm not getting updates I won't be using it as I would be afraid of getting a virus. What do I do with my Chromebook, it's in excellent condition, do I just toss it on the recycling heap? Also how do you delete everything on the computer, sort of getting it back to a factory reset?

Re: Do I Even Need A Computer

My first home computer was a desktop.  Too many pieces - screen, keyboard, CPU (is it still called that?).  When I updated, I got a 17" laptop, now I prefer the 15" laptops.  Just updated a few months ago so I could have Windows 11.  Even though I'm retired for a few years, I still seem to create documents all the time.  I do 98% of my banking on line.

I also just updated my ipad.  I didn't realize mine was about 9 years old.  I had purchased it to use for work when I still used a desktop.  I bought a small keyboard which helped me get emails out quickly before I got to work. I will have my old one wiped and give it my 2 year old great niece for movies, etc., when they are on roadtrips.  I use my ipad more for any travel. I also have a Fire tablet I got from Q more than several years ago.  I don't really use it, but it doesn't take up much spaceWoman Wink  I recharge it every once in a while.

Besides the laptop, I use my phone the most.  My family are all "texters", my nephew facetimes me so I can see my great niece.  I've become one of those people who have become dependent on my phone.  I find it a real convenience.

[ Edited ]

@Jordan2 I use my iPad Pro for everything. I watch shows in high definition, send and receive texts, I do my bill paying and banking and can even deposit checks using it. I read my email, do research, use the internet, TALK to people using FaceTime, by video or by audio, and other apps, have have telemedicine visits with it, do artwork with it, buy and read books on it, watch YouTube, shoot videos, take photos, scan documents, sign documents, save and file articles from the web, read the news from multiple sources, listen to podcasts. You can pretty much do everything with it you do with a computer. I recommend getting the most storage you can afford. The Pro has premium build quality, and lasts. You might not need a Pro version. If you decide to get one, go to the apple store online and compare IPad models side by side.

I never use my laptop anymore. I use my iPad for everything. I have Microsoft Office for it which I keep, just in case, but it is not a necessity as I also have Google Pages and other word processing programs too. There are a ton of utility apps. Im really not using it this way but I might need to, so I keep it. You can also get a keyboard for iPad if you want one, but I don't need one, so I don't. You can print right from an iPad.
