Need to upgrade and curious about the two networks special values of the day. Any suggestions would help.

Don't look for the brand name. Look for the components, because they all buy their components from the same manufacturers. Then consider the "deal."

Good advice. Thanks

I like HP. I have read all the stories on the forums about the problems with Dell so I would not buy one. If you can shop at Sam's or Costco you will find a much better deal/price.

Neither of them... Sorry, neither brand, to me, bears consideration.

I was debating what brand of laptop to buy this past summer and although the one I was replacing was a Dell (which I had been very happy with - it's about 4 years old now) I talked with enough techies types to definitely not buy a Dell now. They have gone way down in the last few years, in multiple areas including CS, and even QVC doesn't offer them much like they did in the past. And they are no way the #1 laptop manufacturer which Rick kept stating when he was introducing the TSV last night. JUst so happens that HP holds that distinction currently which Rick always points out when selling an HP.
I ended up with an HP quad core which I love and the speed is unreal. To turn it on takes less than 30 seconds - it is fast. And I mean it is ready to go in 30 seconds or less. I also like HSN's HP version because it has a touchscreen and that is a huge benefit, imo, especially in today's world. Within another year or two, all laptops will be touchscreen so to purchase one now that isn't will really make a laptop feel outdated before it really is (my opinion, nothing more)
I also did a lot of online research and even on Dell's own website, the reviews were not great by any means. Not sure what happened with Dell because a few years back they really did have great market share but that is definitely no longer true. I even went to multiple electronic stores and none of them even carried more than 1 or 2 Dell models. When I bought my older Dell, there were at least 8 or so Dell models on the floor every place I visited.
One point I heard made about quad core versus dual core - the reps and hosts on QVC today are saying that their dual core is hyper charged but it is still a 2 way highway (that is usually how many describe dual/quad as lanes of a highway.) You really can't justifiably compare a two lane highway with a true 4 lane one.
Specs are really pretty much the same on both - HD and Ram, Tech Support, all the added software so it comes down to if you think you'd get use of a Touchscreen and want quad core speed. Imo, and many others who I consulted when buying mine, AMD has come a long way and while it isn't an Intel, it operates very well, especially when combined with that quad core.
Normally I wouldn't say buy a laptop off of any shopping channel either but both HSN and QVC have really priced these TSV's well - you are getting a lot with both packages, especially with the touchscreen on the HP.(you don't find touchscreens too cheaply locally or at least that was my finding.) And particularly if you feel you will like the Tech Support as many do enjoy having that feature.
