HP is having some nice sales on their site. I found one last week. This is the item # V3A33AV_1. It is an HP Pavilion 17.3" laptop for $659. It looks like a quality build. This is a new product. You will not find this on Amazon. Please call HP for help with a sale.

Something you might want to look at are refurbished computers if your demands aren't high. You can find them now with one year warranties selling for prices starting at under a hundred dollars at sites like Newegg. Some are now even coming with Windows 10 preinstalled which is ironic as some of the computers are selling for less than Windows 10 does to buy it separately.
Many, many businesses have now moved away from buying computers to renting/leasing computers and when those leases are done the computers get returned to be refurbished and resold. There are literally tens of thousands of laptops/desktops out there, many with really good warranties and up to date operating systems for very low prices. Some are also former store display models.
If you're looking for a high end gaming computer, or a computer to do intensive video editng on, you're better off buying new, but if you just need a more casual computer, a refurbished model isn't a bad way to go. You can save a ton of money, get a computer that should last a year or so, has been tested and shaken down already, and is cheap. The selection is vast (to put it mildly) and the prices just keep getting cheaper. For under $100 and up you can get a competent desktop or laptop with a one year waranty and Windows 10, Window 7, or 8. It's not a bad approach.

We have a Dell desktop, a dell laptop and I use a Dell chromebook. We keep going back to Dell because we have had such good luck with them, and when needed , good service. Our previous desktop was also a dell but it was a vista xp so it had to be replaced. However, we gave it to someone who still uses it to keep her books for her business off line and it is still a workhorse for her. Obviously, I recommend dell - and I highly recommend going to the dell website to build the computer you want. They give you next day delivery for free.

I have has 4 Dells....what I hate is that my desktop is Vista and since I like desktops the best I will be getting a new one this fall.......probably a Dell......I don't like laptops very much mine was 07 that I reinstalled and put in the free copy of 10. I can't say that I am a fan of 10..I know I don't have the choices that I used to have but since I am away in the summer I am going to get a new Dell laptop.........
BTW these 2 machines are working fine are pretty fast and have had no problems.......

Dell, HP, OR I-MAC? The built-in Antivirus in Apple electronics sounds great to me, but, I like Dell too...and I need to go up to larger screen from my wonderful Samsung tablet. Suggestions?

This computer was on sale a week or two ago an HP Pavillion.

I usually buy Dell products, a Dell XPS 15" laptop with an i5 processor would be a nice computer. It has a ITB HD with a 32GB SD to speed things up. You should contact these companies for help with a sale.
Apple is introducing new products in September.

Hi @gardenman,
This is what I had intended doing for a Windows desktop set up, until I decided to go with my Chromebook.
Like you said, there are a lot of refurbished computers out there, at very reasonable prices.
