@J Town Girl thanks. We have sound bars on most of our televisions since the speakers usually stink, but had not thought of it for the dvd player, but will get one. They are fairly inexpensive.

@We rescue cats wrote:Does anyone still watch movies on DVDs? I don't think we even have a dvd player anymore (at least a working one) but I want to buy a discontinued TV series, and in fact have several of them. I'm techno challenged in many ways, this is one of them. The post about Stockard Channing reminded me that I loved the West Wing and would love to watch it all again and was ready to buy the set when I realized we don't have a player! (LOL)
I do. I really like the quality of Blu-Ray disks. I find them better quality than HD streaming. While I do get a lot of streaming data with my internet package, I really don't want to go over and pay even more money.

I love DVDs and I have a lot of them. I would never part with them. I don't do the streaming thing. I have all of my favorite TV shows, the entire series (Murder, She Wrote, Columbo, Matlock, Seinfeld, I Love Lucy, to name a few) and movies on DVDs. I have a portable DVD player I keep in the basement to view my exercise DVDs. And theTV in the living room and the TV in my bedroom have built in DVD players. Those TVs are a little hard to find now, but HSN, Best Buy, Walmart, and other stores still carry a few. The TVs I have with a built in DVD player are both Westinghouse.

@We rescue cats : We love DVDs and have purchased several series.
I have a suggestion. If you are the only one watching: consider purchasing a personal or self use DVD player. I use my when I want to watch something different than DH. I purchased a small case with handles to store my DVD player and extra set of inexpensive earbuds.

You bet we do! (No soundbars, though, as we've never felt the need.) And this is the type of DVD case I picked up many years ago. Different brand, but the same style. You can see from the photo how small it is, yet it holds 320 DVDs. We have a lot, but even with some series, it's not yet full. I didn't want a piece of furniture, as we had in the days of VHS tapes, so this is perfect. And the DVD player, itself, is tiny.
I picked up a lot of DVDs for less than $2 each when the physical media stores began going out of business many years ago. I made a haul with documentaries, Christmas movies, and obscure, hard-to- find films--and, of course, classics. I couldn't believe the made-for-TV movies from the '70s I found.
Once I made the decision to chuck the DVD cases, I was home free for storage. For those who like to read the info, I simply removed the part of the jacket that describes the film and slipped it behind the disc as I'd place them in the case.
