DVD+R or DVD-R ? HELP !!

I just purchased a Sony DVD recorder from QVC in order to put my mini camcorder tapes on to a DVD. The product comes with 25 DVD+R to start recording with. Here at home, I have a package of DVD-R discs. Can you please tell me what is the difference between DVD+R and the DVD-R discs? Your help is greatly appreciated.
