Computer will not support Windows 11?

I pulled an old HP out of the closet as a fill-in until DH opens the new HP I bought him for Christmas. I got a message it will not support Windows 11. What will I be missing? Anything important? This thing is slower than molasses.

Old computers have old hardware which does not have the ability to accept software updates. That makes old computers open to security threats. If your device is 5yo or older then it's time for an upgrade.

I'm sure Windows 11 is very nice but it's no big loss as long as you have Windows 10. If your operating system is older than that, I recommend not using the computer.

Re: Computer will not support Windows 11?

Windows 11 is a slight upgrade over Windows 10. It's not a game-changer.

.

Slower than molasses. Depending on how old it is, it likely has a mechanical, spinning hard drive, and compared to more modern solid state drives they're very slow. My current computer boots from totally off to fully ready to go in about twenty seconds. My older one with mechanical hard drives took five to seven minutes to fully boot. I sit down at my desk, hit the power button, take a drink, set down my glass, and it's ready.

.

If it's slow once booted, you might be having memory or storage space issues. I wouldn't invest much in either case since you're less than three weeks from opening the new one.

I really messed up my previous laptop with the new download. I needed a new one anyway - so not a complete loss.

...

Got this one a couple of weeks ago at Best Buy. They set the whole thing up for me. I need to make an appointment to go back to get all the files off my old one.

I have no intention of buying a new laptop just for Windows 11. My six year old laptop works fine.
I use my iPad more that my laptop.

Windows 11 is supposed to be more "security focused."  It kind of forces you to use it's built in Edge Browser to some degree.  I don't care for that Browser but I will use it for some stuff.  Windows 11 will have updates, just like all versions of Windows and it can do things that Windows 10 can not.  In my opinion it is a game changer, as I have not had so many issues with websites that I did with Windows 10.  Windows 11 is much much more secure and it forces you to be.

Re: Computer will not support Windows 11?

I get messages EVERY DAY to upgrade to Windows 11. It never updates to Windows 11. On occasion when it tries to update it has crashed my computer.

I am not about to buy a new computer. For what I use my computer for, I could use my tablet.

In addition to the above, they claim you don't need malware protection or anti virus because it's built in to Windows 11.  I needed a new computer so I had no other choice but to upgrade.  My computer was hitting twelve years old.  I still have it, but I like working with the Windows 11 now that I've figured out what it's supposed to do.  Eventually, everyone wanting to use a Windows based computer will need to upgrade @drizzellla
