I'm retired and home most of the time, I have a landline --- but I now also need a cell phone, which will not be used often. I prefer a prepaid phone --- a friend suggested I buy a Samsung flip phone. I'm clueless about phones. What's the easiest cell phone to use and cheapest.

I have a tracfone. It has 2x minutes on it. I repurchased minutes not long ago for $78 of eBay and got 1 yr of service for $78. I have been very happy with it. It is a slider phone. I was going to upgrade, but I found the minutes and the yr service so cheap, I did not. It gets service in a lot of areas my husband's does not. I mostly use it for travel and, when traveling alone, I wanted to make sure I had service. I purchased the phone during a promotional from QVC.

Kivah, if you're a member of AARP you should check their website to find out which companies offer discounts to AARP members. I know the Jitterbug is the simplest one to use & I think it's about $10/month. I got an LG Tracfone a few months ago, when it was an HSN TS. It's a nice phone, but a lot more than I need since I also only have it for emergencies.

You can get the LG840 from HSN for $80. It comes with 1500 mins & triple mins for the life of the phone & 1 yr service. I have this phone & it has more stuff on it then I need but for the price it's a nice phone. You can add airtime monthly, every 90 days or once per year. Any unused mins roll over when you add airtime as long as you don't let the service days expire. You can add airtime on your phone or online at Tracfone. They have 1 yr service with 400 mins but you would actually get 1200 mins since you get triple mins for $100 per year or a little over $8 per month. They also have 1000 mins. for $160 so you would get 3000 mins & 1 yr service or a little over $13 per month. They have other airtime cards with different prices. You can see all these on the Tracfone site. You can enter your zip code on the HSN or Tracfone site after you click on the phone to make sure it will work in your area. It comes with step by step instructions how to set it up.

I had a Verizon wireless flip phone for years : The Samsung Gusto.
I just "upgraded" to a Smartphone Applei5....it was free, because my Verizon contract had expired, and they gave me the upgrade just to keep me as a customer.
it has many more bells and whistles than I need ..I usually use my cellphone just to make and receive calls when I'm away from home ( I'm retired too).
It's also good in case of a power failure.
You'll do just fine. I was the world's biggest skeptic, but now, I'm so glad I had/have a cellphone.

I got the same deal last year from Verizon Wireless. You should ask your company about a "Loyalty Plan". You have to call them. I also changed my Verizon landline service to unlimited local service. The total cost for the two services is about the same.

You can go to the link I am leaving below if you are interested in what I have to say about prepaid companies/plans and good service.

My husband and I both have the LG Tracfone I bought from HSN and for the money it's a deal. Our phones were under 90 dollars and on easy pay and we got 1500 minutes, a years service and triple minutes for the life of the phone. 1500 minutes cost a lot more than 90 dollars, just remember you have to buy more minutes before your year of service is up.

If you're not into texting I would recommend the Big Easy phones. HSN sells them for 40 dollars. You get 400 minutes and double minutes on subsequent minutes purchased (60 minutes purchased will become 120).
One phone has large buttons, no camera and 1 year of service. The other phone is a flip phone, has a camera and 90 days of service. If you're into texting I would search for a different phone, but it's a nice phone for just calling in emergency situations. I bought my dad and my grandma one. They like the large keys and the simplicity of the phone. I think the flip phone is new, so I'm not familiar with that one.

I bought a Samsung Trac Phone today at Walmart - $9.98. I paid $20 for the minutes - didn't use it yet.
