Is Amazon Prime Worth The Money

I should be getting my Kindle HDX tomorrow. I was sent an email that I can get Amazon Prime for $79 if I get it today before it goes up to $99. What exactly are the benefits for this? I order things from Amazon and most of what I order is free shipping when I spend $25 or more. Do you get unlimited movies and televisions shows for free? Also if I watch something is it downloaded to my Kindle and taking up space on it? I must sound pretty dumb but I really would appreciate any information anyone has!TIA

Re: Is Amazon Prime Worth The Money

You should look at the Amazon web site to determine what they offer that applies to you - it is an extensive list. It is worth it if you order enough throughout the year - if without it your total S&H would be higher than $79 or $99 for the year. If you normally wait until you already qualify for free S&H (going up to $35 per order on certain items) before ordering or don't order much from them, then it might not be worth it.

Re: Is Amazon Prime Worth The Money

I've been an Amazon customer for 9 years and a Prime member for the past 4; it's been absolutely priceless to me. And Amazon's customer service is #1 for good reason. 8)

Especially as I live solo and don't have access to daily transportation. For my - and my beloved cat companion's - health and safety alone it's been a total life-enhancer and life-saver. I imagine I'll continue my Prime membership even if someday I'm extra blessed to have personal autonomy again, since it really helps my budget.

BTW, if you need anything the next day overnight shipping is only $3.99 extra, and you can also send things very quickly as a gift. Plus, you don't have to fill up your shopping cart - you can enjoy the super-fast shipping even just ordering one eligible item. And, sometime items arrive the very next day if there's an Amazon warehouse in your area.

Jordan, please know that you're not "dumb". You just didn't make it to Amazon's website or Google user reviews before you posted. Smiley Wink

P.S.: do click on the "FAQ"'s link in my first post for further information and explanations.

Re: Is Amazon Prime Worth The Money

You don't actually download movies with Prime, you stream them so it doesn't take up memory on your tablet. There are specific movies and TV shows, not all are free. If I were you, I'd get the free 30 day trial. That way you can judge if it's worth it to you.

It's always a victory for me when I remember why I entered a room.

I didn't renew as I was not using the streaming as much as I thought I would. Don't have an actual kindle to make use of the borrowing. Why not try it now you can always cancel it. You may want to try the borrowing book feature.

The free shipping is nice.

Re: Is Amazon Prime Worth The Money

I am a prime member. For me, it is worth it. I don't have to worry about making my purchase add up to whatever price to qualify for free shipping. I just order whatever I want when I want, and it's here in two days. I wouldn't say I order a lot through the course of a year, but enough to pay for shipping charges. Some months I order a few times a month, other months I may not order at all. Also, I like the free streaming of tv shows and movies. But if you have netflix and hulu plus, it's basically the same assortment. The free books is also a benefit. JUST FYI FOR THOSE READING - if you haven apple devices you can still stream tv and moving, plus access free books, you just need to amazon apps made for apple devices to do this.

Re: Is Amazon Prime Worth The Money

I love Amazon Prime. I think I've had it since 2005. A friend of mine just got it today, just before the price increase.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

Re: Is Amazon Prime Worth The Money

For me Amazon Prime is worth the money. I order many products via Amazon and I love getting them within two days. Most of those products would be hard to find in my area or would take an extreme effort and use of extra gasoline going from store to store. Also, my family members do not live in my town. Most live in other states and I ship many birthday gifts and Christmas gifts via Amazon to those states. I would keep Prime if for nothing but the cheaper shipping costs. I think each person has to evaluate their own situation to determine if Amazon Prime is right for them.
