I just got a junk email letting me know I looked at someone profile on facebook, and it said they are looking for someone that I know. Is this a scam or the real person contacting me?

I do not think so

No one can tell when you look at a profile. Ignore the email. Did it come to your spam (junk) folder?

@MistyWhisper Well, did you?

What you got was almost certainly just spam. As to the bigger question of, "Could someone know if you browsed their Facebook page?" Eh, maybe. This goes back many years, but I'd entered one of my books in a contest and the contest website let me see which websites those voting for our book in the contest came from. That was designed to show us which method we were using to promote the book was the most effective, but it was somewhat eye-opening.
You could see the last few websites (I think five, but it's been years ago) anyone casting a vote in the contest had viewed. It was designed to let the writers know which promotion we were running was the most effective, but you'd learn a lot about the voters by looking at the sites they'd recently visited.
Some of my votes came from the Q forums. Some came from other forums I was active on. Some came from a book promotion site I'd submitted to. It was an impressive amount of information available to the writers and those voting in the contest had no clue we could see all of that.
Now, if someone had access to that type of software and they saw that you'd visited that Facebook page, they could possibly be legit. It would just be highly unlikely. Is it possible though? Yeah, I think it is possible based on what I saw back then.

I investigated fraud for 20 years. My thoughts.
A lot depends on how the other person set up their security. There are options within fb that can do all kinds of things. And they aren't all easy to find.
Block everyone you don't know. FB and all social media is full of scams and people who want to steal your info. I don't trust anyone I don't know.
Decline friend requests from people you don't know.
Delete fb messages without reading when they're from people you don't know.
Remember, everything you do on facebook or the internet is tracked in one way or another. ***Clear your cookies, history, cache on a regular basis. I even do this after searching just in case I clicked on something strange.

One more thought. Set your security options so those who aren't friends cannot view your fb page. Google how if you need to.
