I want to thank the O/P for starting this thread. This is getting so bad that I have been extra careful when ordering anything online. I started a thread a few weeks ago which bears repeating. This scam is over the telephone. The scammers use your area code where you live ask you questions about whatever and then you say yes and they insert it in a way where they could get authorization from a bank or CC company it happened to a women on my block who was scammed from one question.. is your name.....answered yes. Becareful and do not say the word yes if your not sure who you are speaking with.

@apple1964

You are right, thats another situation to be aware of........

Normally I let my answering machine/voice mail screen all my calls, but sometimes if Im expecting a call right back I might answer the call, but if that is the question I hear I always say.....tell me your name and company you are affililated with....if they start to give me a spiel or are hesitant I just hang up....

@NickNack, Costco is going to contact Brother.  I suppose it wouldn’t hurt for them to hear it twice though!  LM

Some manufacturers sell ad space on their websites and sometimes the ads are camouflaged to make them look like legitimate links. They'll often use outside firms to sell the ads and are often unaware of who's advertising. The bad guys have gotten pretty clever at exploiting such things.

@gardenman

I have an ad blocker built in to my security software which stops the ads from appearing.......

Wow, had no idea businesses sold ad space on their sites.  I think that is awful.  @Spurt, the ad blocker is a great idea.  I wonder if you can get that for Apple products.  I have MacBook Pro, iPads and iPhones.  LM

YUP!  Adblock Plus (free version).  There are a lot more at the App Store.

Also, all browsers have their own pop up ad deterrents.  Check your browser Preferences.

If the browser(s) have ad-ons, check their ad-on websites.

Yes you can watch videos.  AB does not interfere how your comp operates.  You do that yourself if you want by selecting certain options.  You do all the controlling.

Here is an example re this site:

Anything extra you want to "block," click on Options.
