Some manufacturers sell ad space on their websites and sometimes the ads are camouflaged to make them look like legitimate links. They'll often use outside firms to sell the ads and are often unaware of who's advertising. The bad guys have gotten pretty clever at exploiting such things.

I don't know if anyone else has experienced this phone call. It was a recorded message from "Molly."  She said she was calling from Apple support. 

According to the message, she said that one of my devices has been compromised. She asked if I wanted to talk to Apple support tech, press one.  

I believe this to be another scam call, so heads up.

@gardenman, it wasn’t an ad, it was a chat window from tech support.  The chat session was exactly how Amazon does it.  Slick is right.  

If it had been someone contacting me with that line, I would  have dismissed it out of hand.  However, I used the web address on the printed material that came with the printer.  You need four eyes in your head these days and an ‘I don’t trust anyone’ kind of atttide.  LM

I would report that person to the website.  the website is probably legit but the person in your chat may have been working independently to con you

That would absolutely be a scam.  They've been doing it for years with Windows.  Guess they've moved on to Apple.

Also a friend needed a copy of her birth certificate--As you said it brought up a 3rd party vendor. So on government documents make sure you are on your state govt website....she did a google search and got a 3rd party website to order it from....but luckily she noticed it before completing the application, who would want to trust a 3rd party these days with your social security number and personal information!!!--now some states do work with vital check but thats the only one Id trust.....

OP also had FREE tech support directly from the printer manufacturer.  Usually, it's a year.  Depends on the product/manufacturer.  Also, she should have "called" the manufacturer directly for support to take advantage of her warranty.  Just saying......

You know what aggravates me about the warranties...then the store and product manufacturers argue on which warranty applies first, and who you should contact....I had that problem when I purchased a PC---SHEESH!!!
