@eddyandme when my brother was alive I didn't have a computer and would use his. Back then I knew nothing about computers ( since he passed I was forced to do things for myself), things would go wrong, I would call him to bale me out! He always said it's you, I never have trouble. Now I have a Samsung Pro Chromebook that I spent a lot of money on ( $500 is a lot for a Chromebook). I hate it, I sent it away to be fixed 2 or 3 times ( the screen can freeze with no warning and you can't shut it down, you have to wait till the battery drains) and they never found anything wrong with it. It's coming to the end of its life span in May of this year ( no more updates). I will NEVER buy another Chromebook.

Acer makes some of the best CBs. Many are top-rated. I own two of them, different models, and never had any problems with either of them. When they expire I will buy me another Acer.

@SilleeMee

Though I have the virus protection, can I still be hacked?

I happen to think of that this morning.

Nothing is 100% effective when it comes to protecting any electronic device. Chromebooks use multilayers of protection and it is constantly being updated in the background so that the protection remains updated for the current threats. IMHO adding more cyber-protection to your CB is an over-kill so I don't, or never have had it, on either of my CBs.

Do as you feel comfortable with if that gives you peace of mind.Woman Happy. If you think you would feel more secure by adding more anti-virus software then I don't see why not. That's a decision you need to make.

Hi, @Jordan2 !

The chromebook bit the dust approximately one week ago!  I was posting and before I could hit send it just went down.  Nothing would work.  It's been unplugged for a week now and the battery's still going strong!!!  But it doesn't function - dead as a doornail.

I just picked up a Dell today and trying to set it up and get used to it.  Prior to this I had to resurrect my old HP which keeps freezing up.  I could at least read the forums.

You were totally right hating the chromebook - I'll be a member of your club!Woman Very Happy

OT  Just wanted to let you know I'm very sorry about the loss of your brother.  Please accept my condolences.

@eddyandme thank you so much for your condolences. As for the Chromebook, never again. Yes it's easy to use, but like I said I spent a lot of money on it, I could have gotten a decent HP laptop for what I spent on it, it wasn't worth it. Also I have a Garmin GPS ( I have an old car), I couldn't get updates for maps using my Chromebook.
