I seem to always have problems with electronics - nowwondering is it me????

Monday was playing solitaire while watching Hannity.  Suddenly my laptop shutdown!  The screen was blank and remained so.  Was talking to a friend yesterday and told her what had happened.  She asked her DH who also has a chromebook and he said to just hit the start key.  Nothing happened - it was still dead as a doornail.

This morning I tried it again - nada.....  Then out of frustration, I rubbed my hands across the entire keyboard - similar to fingerpainting when we were kids.  Immediately to my shocking surprise, it turned on!!!!!  It didn't acknowledge me at first; had to sign in as guest.  Then signed out as guest and put al my sign-in stuff in again and - voila! - it all came back!!!! as is nothing had happened!!  Nothing was lost!

Is this normal and something I should expect with Chromebook? or, is it just me, an electronic disaster?Woman Frustrated

Chromebooks will often shut down after an update. You usually have to turn it back on and then sign in again.

Do you have your computer set on sleep after so many minutes of not using it.  Does it totally shut off or is it still on after your screen goes blank?

I had a problem in the past that sounds similar to yours.  My computer wouldn't wake up.  Had to turn it off to get it to work again.

At other times, it would just totally turn off after it went to sleep.  Then, occasionally, it would go to sleep while I was using it.  There was an error in the sleep setting.

You could search for the solution on the internet and on YouTube, someone might be able to show you what to do to fix it.

I was using a Dell Windows PC, so I don't know if this is your problem.  Just sharing something similar that happened to me.

@eddyandme

Don't know about your specific event, will just pass this along.

Anytime any electronic has an issue similar to this! The 1st and easiest thing to do is this. Turn it Off/or Unplug it, just make sure it restarts. Most just need a Reset, for whatever reason, and this many times fixes the problem.

Not just computers and the like, but many of the newer technologies of today.

I love CBs, too! I have two CBs. Is your old one still updating? Like you said CBs do expire. You can check the date of expiration of any CB by going to:

Google Chrome Update Policy

There you will find a list of all makes and models showing their expiration dates. All you need is the model number and that can be found on the underside of your CB. It's the first set of numbers shown just above the upper barcode usually.

Chromebook doesn't do many updates, but when they do an update, the system shuts down.  You can't sign in until its complete.  They announce the updates.  Perhaps you didn't see it.  I loved my Chromebook because there are never any viruses and they are so worry free.  Until that End of Life date at which point your machine doesn't get anymore system updated and customer service ends.

Can you tell me, do you need to get protection on a chrome book from Norton or MacAfee?  They have been calling me to sign up.   You said never any virus.  I don't think I have had any either.  I am elderly and don't know much about it, but love the chrome, because its easy at my age to use it.

Thank you.

Chromebooks come with their own ongoing automatic protection. No need for anything else.
