I really haven't needed a smart phone up to now, but am considering a job where using a camera might be needed rather frequently.

I figured I'd get a "starter" Tracfone to get used to the features and now wonder if there's much difference in the cameras from one model to the next.

Are they pretty much the same .... or are there differences in their cameras?

Tracfone offers different manufacture's phones - LG, Samsung, ZTE, iPhone etc. So cameras and battery life will differ as well as the version of the operating system..... 

Or you can purchase an "unlocked" cell phone and then a sim card/phone plan from Tracfone. 

Whatever you decide to get, you might want one w/16 gb of data ...not 8gb.

Evine has an Lg Fiesta 2 tracfone that’s 16 GB with 13 megapixels 

rear facing camera and 5 megapixels front facing camera. I have this phone and it has 5.5 inch screen and the battery life is pretty good. I really like this phone but I am not a heavy phone user.

It also comes with 1500 min , text and Data.

yes, there's a difference, and enough of a difference to be worthwhile researching beyond this forum, especially since your work performance may be tired to it.

I would recommend the LG Fiesta that has the 13 pixel camera and 16 gb.

I think it would be perfect for what you want.

If you are going to be using the phone a lot Tracfone would most likely not be your best choice.

The new LG Stylo 3 also has a 13 mp rear  camera and it is wonderful.   My previous Samsung Sky  was only a 5 mp and that was always considered one of the disadvantages of this tracfone.  The higher the MegaPixels (mp), the more detail is in the photos.
