I ordered the Blink set of cameras but haven't installed them yet. The instructions say not to put the outdoor camera in front of the door. I called to ask them the best place to put it and they just said Wherever you want. Not helpful. Should it be head level, across from the door, next to a doorbell..etc. Please tell me where you put it if you have a Blink. Thanks.

@geegerbee, the primary reason they say not to put it in front of the door is that it does not pick up direct movement like when someone is walking straight to the door as well as when someone crosses the field of view. If someone enters the field from an angle the movement will be picked up faster.
Before you install it I recommend that you disarm the camera(s) then try it in different positions using live view to see what is covered. Keep in mind that motion will only be detected at 20' or less.
If you go to the blinkforhome.com website and click on the get help tab there are links to support which has a lot of information and guidance and there is also a link to the blink community which is awkward at best at this time as it is supposedly being revamped.
I've also found a lot of helpful information simply by doing a search on my question.

We have 6 Blink cameras around the house. There are:
!. Above front door. You can see people coming and right where they stand in front of the door.
2. We have 2 cameras by driveway and the door entrance right there. One is facing the driveway and the other is to the left of the door on side of house.
3. We have two sides doors in back of house. On either side they are to side of doors up by gutters.
4.One above the basement door.

I must have 12 or 13 I've lost count Blink cameras. I love them.
I have a few in the house but most are outside. They're in trees. Upside of my house, side, front and back.
On one side of my front door I have the ring video and on the other side I have my blink camera.
I love looking who's there more from the blink camera than the ring thing.
I live out on one acre lots and I back up to woods. I get a lot of animal visitors at night. When the motion goes off the camera goes on. The var it's (deer, skunks, you name it); they stop and look right into the camera. It makes a noise that the animals can hear.
My advice on where to put them is to figure out where you feel the most vulnerable.
I know people who work and/or travel a lot. Because the blink camera will advise you of the temperature wherever you are you can know the temp inside of your house. I know someone who has one near the hot water heater because a relative had a hot water leaking terribly. They wanted to know it was or wasn't happening in their house.
You can easily turn them on and off. I turn on and off mine all of the time. It is synced to my Apple Watch and my iPhone.
When the gardner Moses the lawn, I turn some off or every time he rides past the cameras, they capture him.
Sometimes when going out, I check the blink camera to see what the temp is outside.
Something creepy but shows what a nut I am....More than once I've had spiders walk across the outside cameras, it creeps me out and I've tossed the camera I'm holding...
I hope I helped you a little. I'm not the least bit savvy with electronics. I have someone who sets up all of my electronics. But I put them where I want them, she sets them up for me.
More than once she's called the company to ask questions, they've always been patient and answered her questions. I'm pretty sure you aren't a ding bat like me. I'm sure you can set them up.
Please come back and tell us how it's going with your cameras. Like I said you can move them wherever you want them. Just pick them up and move it.
Take care and be safe.

Thanks for telling me where you put them. That was more helpful than the Blink people just saying put them wherever you want. Is it hard to drill them into the house. That will be my next project. I don't have a real drill, just a hand drill. You have to be able to take them down to recharge them, right?

I hope you have better luck with them than I did. My husband bought these a couple of years ago and I HATE them. He's not one to do research, so he just believed the sales pitch, much of which just ended up to be not true.
They take too long to catch movement and, more often than not, just flat don't. But, hey, if a little breeze blows by they'll catch that. Yet I can walk through, moving around within the area and sometimes nothing at all.
We had a guy who climbed over the 6' fence one day, into the back yard. In the process of doing so, he passed by four of the cameras. Guess how many of them caught him in our yard - NOT A ONE.
The complaints go on and on. I would not have spent a dime on these things.

@chickenbutt Did you ever think to get a trail cam for your area? They work great.
