Re: Apple Event today!

[ Edited ]

My husband and I love Apple products.  We both have MacBook Air laptops, iPhones, iPads and Apple Watches.  I currently have an iPhone 13 Pro Max.  I will preorder the 17 on Friday or Saturday.

Interesting that they didn't talk about heat dissipation on the iPhone Air, but talked about it a lot on the iPhone Pro.

@gardenman  You are not the only one who noticed that piece of missing info.

Adding the taxes/tarrifs both iPhones will start out over $1k.

It'll be interesting to see what the reviewers say about the heat in the iPhone Air. Apple might throttle the performance of the CPU to limit the heat output. They've put everything but the battery in the camera bump, so all of the heat will get concentrated in the bump. They know they have a heat issue with that chip, as evidenced by all the talk about heat dissipation in the iPhone Pro. If they're letting the chipset run at full power in the Air, it's likely to get pretty toasty up there.

The titanium body helps somewhat as a heat sink, but this could have been a style over performance decision by Apple, and they could be severely throttling the chipset to keep things cooler. "We're giving you our best CPU!" You just can't use it at more than say thirty percent of its capability.

Serious reviewers will need to poke around a bit to see how that's working out. Does the Air perform at the same level as the Pro? How hot does it get? I'm betting it's either throttled back substantially or you can cook a meal (a small meal, mind you) on the camera bump. I don't see where there's any middle ground. It's a hot chip (at full power) in a small space. Not a good combination.

I switched to my first iphone 3 years ago. I also have an ipad pro, but still use my Windows PC since I love Word and Excel so much.

Thought about getting the Pixel phone, but we will probably d/c the landline.  Like the fact that anything that comes thru my phone will also show up on my ipad. That alone will probably make me choose another iphone.

@cindyNC - all my products are Apple. I use Word and Excel on my Macbook Air. They work fine.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

@gardenman, I could not agree with you more. We are definitely an Apple household. Both my husband and I have MacBook Airs , iPads and Apple Watches. My husband has an iPhone 16 Plus. I just replaced my iPhone 13 Pro Mox with the iPhone 17 Pro. &
Apple products are the best. We rarely have problems. But on the rare occasion when we do, Apple tech support is wonderful!
