I was going to buy one for my daughter but she wants one that's $500 and is good for hiking, etc. It retraces your hiking steps (safety).

All I am going to say on this is DO YOUR RESEARCH!!! Just a few highlights that perhaps the Q may ummmm forget to tell you. I believe you need an Iphone5 or newer ....and you really need to have your phone on you at all times. Yes, a few functions will work but other than that a majority won't work.

I pre-ordered the Apple Watch and had email confirmation within 6 minutes after Apple launched the pre-order website. I expect delivery next Friday, the 24th. I have never seen it in person -- only on the internet. There is a 14 day window in which I can return it if I don't like it, so I had nothing to lose if I pre-ordered it.

I bought the first iPhone within 3 weeks after it was launched and pre-ordered the first iPad, sight unseen, so this is not a new concept for me.

I enjoy learning new technology and am intrigued with the capabilities that the Watch offers now and the potential for it in the future. The fact that it tells time is a minor feature -- it's really a mini computer for your wrist and that, to me, is exciting.

It will be interesting to see how development of this technology progresses especially since Apple and IBM have partnered and both companies are investing in developing health apps.

My first thought was... Isn't Mickey Mouse cute? Or the polka-dots? Next, it occurred to me the extent of student cheating we may be ushering in. Just a crazy thought.

When I was teaching I had students place their smartphones (labeled with their name) on my desk during exams. When they turned in the exam I handed them their phone. The same thing could be done with smart watches.
