Shipping charges

Why are shipping charges different for items that are the same but different manufacturer? I was just about to order a knife. One is $19.98 plus $3.00 shipping, the other is $11.99 plus shipping $5.50.

Never mind the charges.......I wish they would just, SHIP THE DARN ITEM!!!!    Smiley Sad

@denhamNo actual answer here, but I have bought knives online that came in their own wooden storage boxes and others that arrived in plastic sheaths.  Obviously, the wooden box was heavier and more awkward, but I have no idea what the costs were for either knife -  just speculating on why the shipping cost might be different.
