Not a mod, but once you have to start babysitting a threat it's not worth the trouble of keeping it open.
That's the truth. I wish it weren't so, but it is. There are lots of threads here and they can't spend an hour or an afternoon monitoring just one.

I agree with what @debic said. If a moderator has to remove several posts, I think they give up and close or remove the thread. On the new platform, I've noticed they sometimes do try and make a comment asking posters to stay on topic, or not to be argumentative, that sort of thing. I know it's frustrating to see an entire thread go south simply because a few decided to be contentious, though. I do wish the moderators would watch patterns of those who keep showing up on threads and "flaming," because it would help put a stop to the sabotage. But... that doesn't seem to be happening.
@dooBdooHi! .....I think they did several times, ask that it be kept on topic, but there were only two bickering about something that happened somewhere else, nothing to do with the topic....so that's why I was wondering, why punish everyone....I could understand it more if the entire thread was in a war of words.....and yes, I agree.locking an entire thread because of couple of posters makes it so easy to sabotage...
..and by the way I have been meaning to ask, how have you been......how long has it been that you lost your sweetheart?
As others have said, think of the number of sub-forums there are, and the number of threads, and the number of responses -- and we don't know what all their duties are in addition to watching threads or reviewing reports. There's a lot to keep up with.
Thanks for asking, @Jannabelle, that's so kind of you. I'm doing okay, I guess. It will be 3 years this summer, but it feels like yesterday. I don't talk much about it here, though. Thanks, again.![]()

@Jannabelle The recent demise (deletion) of the White House Correspondence Dinner thread is a good example of what happens. There were numerous single post deletions by mods on there for the posts being "political" or "off topics" (which were also political in nature). I'm surprised the thread was up as long as it was because the WH Correspondence Dinner is by its very nature potliical. Anyway, after several different mods had to delete posts, the entire thread was poofed because it was "unable to stay on topic." That is true. People had several warnings about becoming too political (which is forbidden talk on this board) yet ignored that and couldn't help themselves from making political comments so the thread just got deleted. I find that totally appropriate. It's a well-known rule of the board that political talk is prohibited. The entire thread wasn't deleted after the first political comment, merely the post making the comment. And then a third and a fourth.... (maybe more) and finally the entire thread was zapped. I'm sure the Mods don't want to spend all their time monitoring a thread where people clearly aren't getting the message to refrain from making political comments. IMO the mods were extremely tolerant on that thread by only removing single posts until it got to be just too many.

@Pearlee.....thanks for chiming in........do you recall if it was many posters...or just two? ...I understand they have to lock when people are going off topic, and refuse to stop,...I just don't get why posters are allowed to get posts locked, by doing that and ,..no one else joining in.......I am sure they would not allow that on a long standing post.....(two people quarreling, causing post to get locked)....if they have time to issue warning after warning wouldn't they have time to notice who is posting the problem replies?....again when's it's only a couple.

@Jannabelle I didn't count but it was more than two. I saw at least a couple each on two different pages. And then another two were about to get deleted that I saw because of mentioning a pres. candidate in a derogatory way. Enough was enough. I don't know that there are any set rules but I thought the mods were extremely tolerant on that thread trying to save it from violating the "political" rules by deleting posts but people just weren't cooperating. I don't know if the number of posts determines anything. Not sure why that concerns you so much - or even why this whole subject concerns you so much!

It isn't always. Haven't you seen threads where the Mods have just removed individual posts? There are tons of those on the board. And then the Mods let the thread continue on. The locked threads are very rare.

@Pearlee.... No, I haven't been around for a long time,..that is why the thread they locked was important to me, it was nice hearing from posters from the past.....99% of us on that thread were just enjoying it,,,.and joking around,...lol.....two posters got in a spat and ignored warnings to behave.

Hi, @Jannabelle, I don't know if this would help... but there are several regular "chat" threads in the "Among Friends" forum, and the moderators seem to be more amenable to allowing those in that location. Maybe you could try something there, without making it a duplicate of anything else that was closed or removed? Just a thought. Hope you're having a great day!

In general, for whatever reason (only they and QVC know why), moderation does not seem to penalize repeat offenders, shall we say. Individual posts are deleted, but deleting one person half a dozen or more times in 2 hrs doesn't seem to count more than a single deletion, i.e. they don't seem to care about patterns and/or trolling behavior. Moderation never seems to view patterns over long periods of time, because they don't appear to be making any sort of notes or have a method of comparing notes with fellow moderators. That aspect of posting seems to be off-limits, for reasons we probably won't ever know. It's just not being addressed, nor is outright trolling.

@dooBdoo Thank you, that is very sweet for you to think of me.....
.that thread was important to me,.....I started another one, called for old times sake,....I guess it was too close to,the other one and nixed almost immediately..,...a lot sooner than the reply I got to this thread we are in now, which is zero,......I am thinking I better not hold my breath to hear from them.......
and you know there was nothing absolutely wrong with that thread topic....the 2 people arguing on it were arguing about something totally unrelated.....and that could happen on any thread...
and thanks again I have had a great day. : )

@Pearlee....hi,,I am sorry I missed your reply yesterday...,it concernes me because I don't think it's fair when posters are being kind , respectful and enjoying chatting with each other and then two start arguing over something that has nothing to do with the thread and causes it to be deleted....I guess it's just me but that seems to be unfair to posters obeying the rules......whether it's a thread I start or another poster starts.
