I have a question,...when a thread is going very well, then two posters begin to spar, despite warnings,....why does the entire thread have to be locked?.....it seems unfair,....it also seems like it makes it very easy for threads to be sabotaged,....why are the offenders comments  not just deleted?....thanks.

Not a mod, but once you have to start babysitting a threat it's not worth the trouble of keeping it open.

It is a shame, huh?  I know what you mean.  Quite a few times I have thought, well, this is a nice topic and how can it possibly go bad -- and then it does!!

I agree

(at the risk of this thread being locked) I was not for such heavy moderation at all.

I agree with what @debic said.   If a moderator has to remove several posts, I think they give up and close or remove the thread.   On the new platform, I've noticed they sometimes do try and make a comment asking posters to stay on topic, or not to be argumentative, that sort of thing.   I know it's frustrating to see an entire thread go south simply because a few decided to be contentious, though.  I do wish the moderators would watch patterns of those who keep showing up on threads and "flaming," because it would help put a stop to the sabotage.   But...  that doesn't seem to be happening.

@dooBdooHi! .....I think they did several times, ask that it be kept on topic, but there were only two bickering about something that happened somewhere else, nothing to do with the topic....so that's why I was wondering, why punish everyone....I could understand it more if the entire thread was in a war of words.....and yes, I agree.locking an entire thread  because of couple of posters makes it so easy to sabotage...

..and by the way I have been meaning to ask, how have you been......how long has it been that you lost your sweetheart?

@@Debic.....I agree......but a couple of posters arguing and ignoring warnings should not be reason to punish a whole group who were having a fun thread......but they didn't ask me,lol...

It's not really, but it has to be a judgement call.   I don't know at what point people are removed as members, but I do know it's generally not long before someone else replaces them in troublemaking.

It isn't always.   Haven't you seen threads where the Mods have just removed individual posts?  There are tons of those on the board.  And then the Mods let the thread continue on.   The locked threads are very rare.

NI have no idea what a moderator would have to do to keep a thread on track -  how attentive the reading and reading, how sucessful they'd be if they tried to ban the Bickerers.  We all know those who'd violate standards once will deviously return under other names and have to be found once again.

Another thing I have no idea about is what a moderator does besides sit in front of a screen and read what we write here on the Forums.  Is that the whole job or are they also reading other QVC-related media, are they responsible for other kinds of tech aspects of the business?

What I do know is that everything they do is determined by company policy which tells them what they can do and also determines how much time they have to do it - pretty much like any other job.
