And that's all that matters, right?
Would a little donation to the library who gifted you with this valuable find, not been appropriate?
Gloating is never attractive, IMO.
I agree.

This thread is an excellent example why I really never like to start a new thread on here.

@ShowMe The OP wanted to share her good fortune with those she thought were cyber friends. I wonder if this manager had put it in the dumpster out back and the OP had found it there, retrieved it and took it home would she still be found in the wrong.
I'd like to think not but I've been here too long to believe that.

OMG. People. It's a clock.
My DH worked for city government as a police officer. I can't count the many times he rescued something from the township dumpster, brought it home and fixed it, if needed.
Items included lawn mowers and snow throwers among other things. Sometimes all it needed was new spark plugs or a new starter.
Things might work differently in big cities, but in small towns employees throw usable stuff out. there is a budget to buy and replace items as needed or wanted. there aren't auctions or other avenues to sell or repurpose things. Instead of donating items, they just toss them out.
The OP probably rescued the clock from a trip to the dump. You would be surprised what items are tossed without a care.
