Goodmorning, Minkbunny! I agree and that is what I taught my children. In fact they laugh about it till this day. When it was time for them to get out on their own I said to them......"I did the best I knew how. I worked hard at being a good mother. I'm not perfect. If you have a hang-up..... go see a counselor!!! I'll support you in any way I can but you are adults now and you are responsible for the choices you make".
I am concerned for these kids that are being recruited. I know we all are. Some came from homes that were not loving....some came from loving homes. Either way we have to address it for the safety of our country and our children and grandchildren if there is to be a future for them.

Well said, jubilant. I am sure you raised children that are a credit to society - and their upbringing.
We told our children once they were old enough to be interacting with others outside the circle of immediate family and friends (like Sunday School, kindergarten, etc.) - if they were right, we would support them to our death.
If they were in the wrong, we would not.
We once had a major school board battle. Our son answered a question on a Civics paper that was gauged as " in your opinion " - The teacher marked it wrong. We fought for him and said One's opinion cannot be wrong.
We (and he) won !

This reminds me so much of another time in our world. I was a mere babe when it was happening, but my mother told me about it, and we discussed it often as we grew older.
Here's a link that will curl your toes. It is happening again.

Many churches around where I live are reaching out to them and renting out buildings and inviting all kids from the community to come in and have fun and try to connect them with something. My daughter will be working with horses and kids who have problems when she graduates and gets her degree. She will be working for a charity....hopefully with some of these kids and being able to help them. Some of them come out to the barns just to be with the horses and work in the cold...no boots...no gloves...I would like to see more work ranches and farms for these kids instead of just setting across a desk from a counselor. We need programs to get the interested in something. I think working with animals is a great way to go. I think it has been successful with prisoners.
* Equine therapy...
Animals and children share a magical bond.

Another successful program is Transcendental Meditation. Most people will think it's too 'hippy' & don't understand it since it's something you can't touch or see.
The David Lynch Foundation has introduced TM to veterans w/ PTSD, children in poverish schools & abused women/children...and there are positive results. And TM is a skill that will remain w/ them for a lifetime. Once a calm mind, things are clearer.
I've been practicing TM for many years. It's not a "hippy" thing at all lol. It's a breathing and focusing inward practice that has been scientifically proven to have physical benefits. It can be just a calming introspective practice or it can also be spiritual if one so chooses. There are classrooms around the country that are teaching elementary school kids meditative practices. I imagine there are parents who object as they assume it is teaching there child a religious or cult type of practice.

My daughter has an Associate's Degree in Addictions and Substance Abuse. She is going for her Masters in Counseling so it will be another couple years. Meanwhile she works at horse shows and is also on the board for the Charity. The woman she works for and who runs the charity gives horse back riding lessons and boards lots of horses. My daughter is working with one (an Arabian Gelding). There is a beautiful video of him on you tube that I tried to find. Actually, I did find it. It was still working but I couldn't post it for some reason. His name is Lord Zahar and he is exceptionally gentle and laid back for an Arabian. She leases him and works with him about 4 times a week. My grandson exercises him now as her doctor has warned her not to ride due to a back problem. The charity got him for the purpose of working with kids. Usually they buy Quarter Horses but this horse is a gentle soul. I hope he works out. He is beautiful. I am going to go back to youtube and see if I can figure out how to show him to you. I am not the brightest bulb on the block when it comes to computers and I have been a little lazy about learning new things.

It sounds like the pastor chose the correct course of action at this point. A church is full of sinners but when someone has sinned against the church and is causing divisiveness they should be approached (which is sounds like the pastor did), the individual should be counseled ( again sounded like she was) but if the person is unwilling to change and continues to be divisive then church discipline might be removal from the church until change has taken place. Paul talks about this in his letter to the Corinthians.
I would say threatening church members and appearing to map a path of destruction for the church would come under not willing to repent.

Disneylandfan -
Very nice analysis and summation.
I agree with you.
