I will never forget that incident of the female news reporter (in the South I believe) who left her backdoor slightly ajar early one morning for her dog. Unknown to her, a criminal was in the area and he entered the home raped her and then beat her senseless until she died so she could not i.d. him. This woman was well known in her community and I'm sure they will never get over it.

Thanks, JustMeMelissa.......As korny as it sounds, one of those headband LED lights would be handy, too. Just in case........ I have one in a table near my front door. It was included in a set with other flashlights..........haven't used it yet, but if I were a camper/hiker, I would have it with me.

He would have stayed put until it was day light, or go back to camp.
That is why they are called "accidents"...
Happens to the best and most experienced regularly...
Sadly, many have the mentality that it "won't/can't happen to me"...
Agreed.

Borrowed from WS. Exact location where he was found. That is a dummy, I think. Picture from Sheriff department.

Its really sad. I really had figured he was dead since they couldn't find him.
I have had dogs my whole life and I know that most have a sixth sense and if they do take off on high, most can find their way back to a spot they know or will return once they get their bearings. Just as his dog did. It took the dog a while but he did make it to a "familiar" spot. Its just so sad this man died this way.
