I received one several months ago for a wedding in August. It does say I'm invited to the wedding, however it's very cheesy looking. It looks like a post card. I'm glad I took a good look at it or I may have thrown it away thinking it was junk mail. I'm not trying to be mean. It's just that this particular item I was sent is certainly like nothing I've ever seen before. The people that sent it aren't hurting for money either.

I've never heard of receiving a 'Save the Date' and then not receiving an invitation. Unless the wedding was called off.

@Mominohio - Save the dates are sent to let you know about the upcoming event. If it's for a wedding, the date is the one on the note you received. Invitations are not usually sent out before 6-8 weeks. If the date is in the next couple of months you should be receiving an invitation shortly. If the date on the Save note is rapidly approaching, you might want to call the people. Could be they pared down their list and forgot you got a Save note?

I personally have never received one, but we are sending them out a year in advance for our upcoming HS 50th Reunion for June 2017, I think it is a good way for people to plan in advance, especially for out-of-towners!

cancelling the wedding two weeks prior to the event meant that they could not get any money back from anyone. the brides family held a party anyway and asked people not to dress up to much. of course, no one from the grooms side was there. the bride got cold feet and said that her husband to be was "boring.".......and they lived together for a couple of years.
the brides mom practically went into hiding for those two weeks. we received notice via a text message from the maide of honor apologizing and saying that the wedding was off.
I hope the gifts from all the parties, were returned.

To the OP:
Not in my world, they're not. In fact, I toss them. UNTIL I receive an actual invite, the date is OPEN to anything that may fall on it- THEN it's saved for that event.

My niece was having a very well planned affair which I was extremely blessed to be a part of every aspect. The wedding planning was done for the past 16 months and wedding took place 4/23/16.
I received as every person (couple) invited to wedding February, 2015 a "save the date" with a beautiful engagement picture postcard type. On the reverse and on the card were the details of where to book rooms (hotel), shuttle service info from hotel to venue, and place/date of wedding. It came in a beautiful calligraphy addressed envelope.
when her shower invite came it was the same style with all pertinent info including brides mom address if you wanted to send something (which I thought was a great idea for out of town guests or purchasing thru her registry as a gift).
Not to sure but I think about 6 weeks before we received the invitation -- including dinner rsvp., hotels info, shuttle service info, formal attire blurb, iteniarary of day. Nothing was missed it must have been 1/2" thick!
But, not one person was missed and all rsvp were received in a very timely manner. I think because invitees knew the date well in advance.
one month prior another invitation went out to the bridal party and guests invited to the rehearsal dinner including all pertinent info. I can only imagine how much the postage was😀😏
Upon arrival at hotel checkin everyone was given a nice goodie bag and copy of itinerary This wedding went off without a single hiccup!!! And the bride was stunning, venue & food service outstanding, band awesome, and it was attended by almost 60% out of state friends & family! 🎉❤️👰

so far, no......but it has only been two weeks. i can only imagine how many and how much she has to get back to people. this was a 200 person + wedding.

@hosieroriginal
i have been thru this process 7 times in 3 years and these cards go out AFTER final guest list has been decided. I can't imagine anyone receiving one and feeling theyARE NOT on the wedding day guest list -- would just be a waste of your time (hurt feelings if no formal invite came) and why would they send it if you weren't.
Also, keep in mind normally these are printed by the same invitation person and mailed only after bride/groom go over every name on list for any errors or missing names. My niece her mom & I triple checked everything from persons name spelling, address and more!

It's a heads up for people who aren't in close touch with the bridal couple that they are getting married. We recieved one in January to let us know that our nephew is getting married in August. Their announcement was just a courtesy since our family is close. Not sure how long this type of announcement has been around.
