I've been hearing rumors where I live about break-ins. It seems like not matter where you live nothing is safe. I take every precaution but it's a shame the way of life has changed dramatically everywhere. We all have to be on alert but what do you do to be more protected. My friends and I were thinking of ways to booby-trap our homes. Some were funny; what do you do if anything?

I would hate to not feel safe. Most around here don't even lock their doors, although the crime in the nearby big cities is getting worse and worse.

I use crimemapping.com and spotcrime.com to see what's going on in my neighborhood. I have dogs so i don't worry.

I have dogs, and very watchful neighbors. I have cats too, that I guarantee will trip anyone trying to come in.

Just be careful regarding door-to-door solicitors. Two guys saying they were a security protection company. Our new neighbors had to ask them to leave. They seemed very aggressive, they said. I told them to never answer their doors, just to be safe.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

I have a window right by my front door. I always look out that window before opening the door. If it's anyone I don't know, I open the window and talk to them letting my dogs bark like crazy and apologize that I cannot open the door because my dogs aren't good with strangers.

These sites work with local law enforcement (and ESRI's mapping engine) to get the info up. Maybe your police dept decided not to have the info on the websites.

Our next door neighbor's son installed a camera to watch deer. . Well there was a coyote and a big surprise, a man!! We have motion lights on each corner of our home, lights up like a penitentiary break. Don't think the wife was told about prowler or what they did about security but all of their property is in the pitch black dark.
