About two thousand years ago I'm sure the LOS made some sense, but today it seems like just an old and peculiar system.   

Back when Elizabeth was queen it seemed odd (to me) that Charles would next be king, even if he was a total idiot.   They should have to "qualify" in ways other than mere birth order.
