GOOD MORNING....I am up early so that I can go riding before the heat (and rain ?) of the day moves in. CUTE.....I love the way you describe your outings....you made me feel as if I were sitting right there with you at the picnic ......a GREAT GS....how wonderful is that ? My oldest grand is only 15 so hopefully I have some years to go. The closest I have ever come to real homemade ice cream was when one of my DsIL got an ice cream machine and made vanilla...it was delicious but my son tells me the machine is now keeping company with the bread machine, cricut, pilaties, etc in the basement.....all things she could not live without. SNAPPY.....how are you doing with your back ? At least you can sit on the heating pad looking out your new windows ! I don't usually go with DH on business because he usually doesn't go past the NY metro area. This was a really unusual circumstance and probably will not be repeated any time soon (if ever). He is tired and has curtailed his working a great deal. He is older than I and I tell him all the time that slowing down is a good thing. BTW......a little fact that may or may not be interesting to you guys......My DH and Joan Rivers were friendly back in the day. They were both paying their dues as young professionals by working the country club and Catskill mountains circuit and became friends. Of course as time went on they drifted apart and have had no contact in "100 years"......DH tells me that she was at a couple of parties that we had years ago but I have no memory of her at all. ISSY.....nice to meet you too. Your home sounds yummy...you and Snappy have color schemes that I can only drool over in magazines. Our house is a mishmash of things we have acquired over the years...mostly antiques but shabby chic style I guess. We have alot of wallpaper which seemed like a good idea at the time. Well...time for me to start my day...have a wonderful holiday everyone.

Happy Labor Day to each of you. We are just "kicking back" as cute says. Doing laundry. Love machines that work. DD raked the yards yesterday and sprinkled grass seed all over. There are so many dead spaces. Hope it grows. We knew the gardeners wouldn't be here today, so the timing was good. It's in the mid 90s today, but I just turned the AC on about half an hour ago, so I think the new windows are helping. Will be glad to get the window treatment back in the LR on Thursday. The slider in that room is very wide and we feel exposed although we really don't use that room unless company comes. Even then, mostly we are in the kitchen family room.

cute, what a great treat to have your GS come and bring that precious little GGD! Nine months old already? Wow. How old is the little baby boy in TX? Must be well over a year. Do they still have renters in the east? Hope so or that they will sell that house. Sorry you didn't get to use the zip line, but it sounds as if you had a fabulous time. Danky is right about how well you explain those parties and other things you do. We do feel like we are enjoying them with you. DD#1 showed me inside pictures of the larger more upgraded unit she and her hubby hope to buy if and when the sell the 2 units they now own. The kitchen is small, but has granite and an island and there's a skylight in the area. Also one in the den. So helpful in small spaces. They seem to be doing well. The fur babies get along alright. Amber is 15, so she sleeps a lot and so does Betty Boop. Too funny. The kitty likes to get up in the night and play, and when nobody joins her, she scratches the furniture which she seems to know will get response from DD. They are so smart.

Danky, thanks for stopping by. I remember my step father having a hand cranked ice cream maker when I was in my teens 100 years ago. Boy I hear you about all the stuff we just "must" have and then it sits somewhere. We don't have basements out here, so that sort of thing ends up in the garage, where we have no room for cars. I can see why you don't have the opportunity to travel with your hubby. Glad he got that special trip. Interesting that he knew Joan Rivers. Working together in show business, I guess. Did he give up on the show business, or does he still work in that area also? I do recall that the older people in that profession used to talk about the Catskills. Wonder if that's still a place for starting out. Hmm. My hubby was 8 years older than I. My BFF's hubby is about 17 years older than she, but they have been married more than 50 years and have 2 kids in their early 50s. My back is all better, thank you for asking. WALLPAPER? Can be so pretty, but oh so hard to remove. We don't have any in this house. I'm sure your place is very nice and reflects who you are.

Hi Issy, MsLomo, bath, CouponQueen and all.

HI SNAPPY.....no, DH was never in show biz (I'm the drama queen in this family ). The Catskills (aka The Borscht Belt or Jewish Alps) disappeared years ago. All that is left is mostly decaying hotels/resorts of which there is talk of bringing in Atlantic City type gambling casinos. But backin the day it was THE place for young talent to get experience and work. My husband knew and worked with many of them..Don Rickles, Jerry Lewis, Lenny Bruce to name a few. My DH worked in a kitchen for the first time at the age of 15 and knew that was what he wanted to do with his life. But he, too, needed experience and training so he worked the "circuit" in any capacity he could apprenticing for anyone that would give him room and board. He learned about Jewish food, keeping a kosher kitchen, plus all the other lessons of running a kitchen and preparing food. He eventually moved on to private country clubs where he grew and moved up the professional kitchen ladder. It was not until many, many years later that he attended the Culinary Institute of America as a Master Chef guest instructor. Interestingly, over the years he was asked to prepare the food for many of his old "celebrity" friend's weddings and BarMitvahs even though he is not Jewish. He has never had the desire to have his own restaurant feeling that an executive chef has all the power ,without any of the headaches of ownership ,and is very, very well paid at a certain level. He is so talented and makes it all look so effortless whether he is cooking for 1000 or 2. He also is multi-faceted in that he can make pastry as well as a complicated sauce as well as intricate mind boggling ice carvings.....there is nothing in the operation of a kitchen that he cannot do plus he has a very easy going demeanor making him in great demand. Well...enough. He would be mortified that I am singing his praises to the cyber world..of which he has a limited understanding.

Danky, WOW am I ever impressed with your hubby and his unique skills! {#emotions_dlg.thumbup1} It's interesting that he knew what he wanted to do from his early teens. That's a real gift. Love the idea of making ice sculptures. They can be so absolutely gorgeous. He is a true artist. I do think it might be easier to cook for a crowd than for 2. I know it seemed easier when our kids were children than when it was 2 of us. DD and I don't really cook. We "heat". Although tonight I intend to make what my kids labeled "witches brew" because we used to eat it on Halloween. Just ground beef, corn, tomato sauce and noodles. Your hubby would probably make the noodles, and fancy up the rest of it. I remember you telling us that you are also a very good cook. Wish I had some of that ability, but I'm too old to care that much now. Did you meet him a long time ago? I was 17 and hubby was 25 when we met. We were married a year later. He died 3 weeks short of our 58th anniversary. So glad you have joined out little family here. These ladies went with me through hubby's radiation in 2008 and his Homegoing two years later. They have been a great comfort to me and you will like them. Have a nice day.

cute, thanks for praying that DD and her hubby will be able to sell their units. Someone looked at his, but that's as far as it went. DD is doing some volunteer work and will be tutoring 2 afternoons a week for pay. Not a lot, but she will be so helpful with needy kids because of her many years as an English teacher. She has lots of opportunities now that she is retired. They are really involved socially with other people living in Leisure World. It's really a community which they both like a lot. They swim quite a bit for the exercise. SIL works a few hours a week at the mortuary. He could use a bit more work. So glad your DS's place in VT is still rented. That little boy is walking already. Wow. I think these kids born now do have a gene we didn't get because we didn't need it. They all seem to know how to work computers. DD is almost through her first day of the new school year. She texted me earlier that all is okay. There have been swarms of ants today in the sink, counter, wall in the kitchen. I went out to do some chores and thought I'd just leave the house to them. {#emotions_dlg.ohmy}

SNAPPY....you must miss your DH so very much. Even though you are very stoic I sense that there are moments when you must feel lonely for him. I wish I could make it better for you all the time but if you had sacrificed the history with your DH you wouldn't have the memories today. Thank you SNAPPY, CUTE and ISSY for welcoming me. It is wonderful to have a place to chat without suspicion and animosity. DH has dinner ready so I am off but, BTW, CUTE we spend much of the winter in VT. We ski Okemo where I have been going since I was a child.

Hi Ladies.....the humidity has finally gone down and we feel like we can breath again. We are going to stay at the beach for the foreseeable future which is fine with me....I love the ocean. SNAPPY...I met DH when I was in my teens and he was a young man.He worked in the kitchen at our country club and I found him to be very mysterious and he found me to be attractive. My parents and grandparents were beyond horrified and disapproving but, in spite of ALOT of bumps in the road, it worked out. They all ended up loving him as much as I do and for many years have thought of him as a son rather than SIL. Have you and DD always lived together or just since the death of your DH ? How absolutely lovely that your other DD is a newlywed ......I remember reading of the upcoming nuptials at the time and thought it a true love story. Do you like him and approve of the marriage ? CUTE...I mentioned Vt. because you were saying your son had a place there. Actually for this part of the northeast it is a very reasonably priced place to live but I don't know how it compares to the rest of the country. People in the NY/NJ metro area think any place where the houses are under $500,000 and the real estate taxes are less than $25,000 per year is a bargain. LOL.....Have a wonderful afternoon.

Hi Danky. Of course it's hard to be without my hubby, but he suffered a lot and what I felt when I saw him breathe out his last breath was relief and gratitude. I've had ups and downs, of course, but I wouldn't want him back to suffer anymore and he had placed his faith in Jesus as have I so we will be together again. When things go wrong around the house, he would know exactly what to do and we don't, but eventually the Lord helps us figure it out. Yes, this DD has always lived with us. And it is an amazing thing that my other DD has finally married. I like her hubby a lot. He calls me "ma". His mother died right after they met, so DD saw her once. But she had dementia, and didn't know who anyone was. So I'm the only parent either of them has. I pray that someday my other DD will meet a wonderful man. She is almost 55. My son and his wife have been married nearly 40 years. I'm grateful to have my DD here. I wouldn't want to live here alone. Too much responsibility. I can understand why your parents were concerned when you first met your hubby, but all's well that ends well. What did he fix for dinner last night? Yummy. My DD was dumbstruck (nearly) to see witches brew last night, and I must say we enjoyed it.

cute, I so wish you could send us some of that rain. Thunder doesn't bother me, but I don't like lightning. Several people were struck by it recently at one of our beaches. Glad your hubby saw the bunny. I'd miss him if he went away. Do they fix a den or something when winter comes? This city girl knows nothing of such things. Oh, I went to bed just before 1 this morning, and the ants were marching across the counter and into the kitchen sink. What they were doing there is anybody's guess. And I don't know where they are getting in. I sprayed them with bleach and wiped them up as best I could, but they kept appearing. Finally I went to bed and figured they could do their thing without me. This morning there are only a few there. I called Coit today. Our drapes will be here tomorrow afternoon and we will have the air ducts cleaned on Monday sometime. Hope that helps us with our dry eyes and runny noses. Got the floors washed earlier today.

Hi Issy, bath, MsLomo and all our friends.
