Hi Snappy; hope that the painter gave you a reasonable estimate. My front yard used to have 2 big pine trees--one in the middle of the front yard and one on the other side of a very wide driveway. They were beautiful but huge. Gave lots of shade, but in the fall and winter time, the pine needles were every where. The roots eventually started to raise up the sidewalk, so I had them cut down. Now, in the middle of the front yard where the tree was, I have a beautiful flower bed. It has white rock around the outside, and inside of the flower bed, I plant hot pink petunias. It is really pretty. Also, the neighbor in back of me has a lot of ferns, and all of a sudden these ferns started sprouting in my front yard by the steps. I was thrilled. I also have a bottle brush tree, bird of paradise, calla lilies, jade plant, yellow roses, white roses, red and purple fuchsias.

I used to have a small garden. It was probably 10 x 12 ft. I was having trouble with the cats digging in it so my brother built a corral around it and anchored the 2 x 4's to the side retaining wall. It had a front gate and netting stapled to the side. Plus, he attached netting across the top of it that dropped down to the side. I would just go thru the front gate and unroll the netting. No critters could get into it. I painted the corral white, and it was beautiful. I grew strawberries, string beans, lettuce, squash, and on the outside of the corral, I had a row of beef steak tomatoes. My tomatoes were as big as grapefruits, and so delicious. I would fry them when they were green.

Hi Cute. Good to see you here. I think that your DH is giving you your mowing job back!! How is your palm tree doing. A few of my neighbors have palm trees. Guess that you will be out and about this weekend.

Hi Selah; thanks for stopping by. Wish that we all could go on a rock hunt together. Seems like the year is just flying by, and I have to really make an effort just to keep up. Always love chatting with you and the other ladies. I know that Delaney is having a great time with her gram.

Hello to all of the wonderful ladies of the Q.

Hello, MsLomo.....we miss you. Hope that you are doing okay.

cute, glad you have your mowing job back since you want it. You must be in great shape! Between that and the gazelle, you get quite a work out. Sorry you haven't heard yet about your carpet, but am sure you will. Happy to hear the bunny is back. Guess he/she isn't a baby anymore. Wonder why it's always alone. I don't know what will happen here with the lawns. You will rejoice with me that we got rain last night. There was also thunder. It's in the high 50s and very cloudy right now, but I doubt there will be more rain. It should be a sunny warm Mothers Day. We were happy when the painter (David) came yesterday. He got here before DD so I showed him around outside. He was almost finished with the inspection when she got here so he explained his findings and we opted for a different color scheme which makes me happier. After at least 15 years, the hunter green trim will be gone. The house itself will be sand castle which is about what we have now, the trim a shade of darker green and the front door RED. They can't start right away because they are working on other jobs, but he said 2 or 3 weeks which is fine. The new gates should be here by then. It will take 4 days to complete the work. We are feeling blessed.

Hi Selah, I didn't really think you would be upset with me, but don't like to take people for granted. phluphy is in the "year of the firsts" and took a nasty fall down stairs which wrenched her whole body. I'm sure she appreciated your input and she knows where to reach you if she needs more. Yes, you are well acquainted with grief. You were very young when widowed. You know Paul said to Timothy that "I desire that the younger widows marry, bear children, manage the house, give no opportunity to the adversary to speak reproachfully..." so you just did the very best thing and it turned out so well for you.

Issy, am sure you missed those trees at first, but your beautiful planter sounds lovely. White rock is so striking, especially with the bright pink petunias, which are my favorites. You speak of the vegetable garden in the past tense, so maybe it got too much for you. But it would be nice to grow one's own food. My mom did that on a limited level and really enjoyed it. Those big tomatoes sound so yummy. They taste so much better than store bought. We also have ferns that came from elsewhere. Asparagus ferns. My African daisies have migrated to the rose garden from where I planted them. They are gorgeous and very prolific bloomers. They thrive on benign neglect, which is what they get here now. We are all enjoying our outdoor mats/rugs. We left ours out this "winter".

MsLomo, we miss you. Hi to WaJa, and all our KS friends who stop by.

cute, glad you are getting rain. We had some, but not nearly enough to end the drought. You will have Corvette weather soon enough. I can see the blond pony tail now, flying in the wind. Am sure you will hear soon about the carpeting. And they can't put it down when it's raining, at least that's how it seems to me. It's cool today and still cloudy, but I don't think we will get more rain now.

I love hearing about the bunny. He must have found a place to stay warm. Lucky likes him. Is it possible that they might play together? Or at least be company for each other? I'm a dumb city girl, but it would be sweet.

It's great that you have all that fresh produce around you. We have a farmers market in town, but DD and I have never been there. It used to be an Armstrong nursery building. I eat enough fruit, but not enough vegetables.

Oh I'm sorry your palm tree didn't make it through this harsh winter! I know it mattered to you. Our patio mat is also reversible. We will have to move all that stuff when they come to wash the house and paint.

My SIL has shingles. DD took him to urgent care last night. They gave him pills and a salve. So far he doesn't have pain. One of my friends had it several years ago and still has lots of severe nerve pain that makes sleeping hard. Hope he doesn't get that. I got the vaccine after another poster had it in her eye.

Glad you got your tote and that it's your style! They know you by now.

Happy mothers day to you and all who read here. We will be gone tomorrow. Church and then lunch at our son's house. You are all dear friends.

cute, so nice that your kids and grands got in touch with you. I knew they would. They love you LOTS. Sorry about that wild weather. Your area looked like it was going to get hit hard. Really bummed that you lost the palm tree. They are plentiful out here.

Everyone was at my DS and DDIL's house yesterday afternoon. They have done a lot of work inside, and are trying to get GS#2 to finish the patio cover he started. They were using one of the bedrooms as an office, and that's where they found the termites when they took down wallpaper. So that's all fixed, and GS#2 put beautiful mahogany wood around the bay window and inside as a seat. Painted the rest of that wall brick red and the others gray. It makes such a difference in there. DDIL uses that as her office. She had a test on Friday to see the source of the terrible arthritis pain in her back. So far nothing has helped her. So grateful she can work from home now most of the time. We had a nice lunch and I got to catch up a bit with those I don't hear from often. Got a gift card for a place DD and I like to eat and a lawn sign that has an old lady painted on it and says something like "welcome to grandma's place". Too funny. After we get the place painted, I'll put it out in the front yard. DD#2 found what looks like the perfect outdoor lights and ordered 2 of them. Yeah.

Anu, thanks for stopping by. Hope your Mother's Day was nice. My SIL seemed fine yesterday. Hoping this is a mild case. I got the shingles vaccine over a year ago with no problems at all. That was after one of the women on Widow's had it on her face and in her eye. Hope you are safe from those wild storms.

Nice and sunny here with gentle breezes. Perfect gardening weather! Smile

Either by mistake, or design following the recent spam attacks here, the Q-Team has left "Create a nickname" following "Sign in" for current, rather than new members only again. I wanted to let you know, if you're reading, that I just filled in my same nickname and it worked.

For the moment anyway.

There are complaints going in, so they may fix this at any time. Or not...

Love and blessings to each of you dear friends. {#emotions_dlg.wub}
