Years ago QVC gave a very large credit nights at midnight. Kathy Levine drew names from a "barrel" and I think your name went into the drawing if you made a purchase that day. I won one night, wasn't watching, but they called me to tell me. And NO, I don't still have it!
And after my first husband passed, I won the heart of the most precious 80+year old gentleman, with whom I spent 11 perfect years until he became an angel. Best prize ever!!

Many years ago, I was in Las Vegas at a 2 day conference paid for by my employer....That in itself was a great perk of the job. I was so thankful to be chosen to go ......I won $600.00 on a nickel slot machine on my way to the conference. I felt like I hit the lottery with a free trip and winning money. I took it all home knowing that if I went to the slot machines again it would be gone. Best nickel I ever spent.

A few years ago I attended a Christmas fundraiser at our vacation community.
i won a really huge wicker basket filled with every conceivable thing needed to bake any and everything. Of course, I haven’t baked for over 50 years. I quietly gave it to one of the families being feted. She had a lot of children with her so I am sure she put it to good use !

Yes, I have been lucky to win a couple items! One was a huge stuffed dog which my children loved. The other item was a very nice area rug which I loved! Now if only the lottery would go my way!
Oh, and I now have neither.

DH used to play the lotto with one of his coworkers. About 5 years ago we had a very leaky roof and insurance would not cover it. We were saving every penny to get a new roof. We had about all but 15oo saved, It took a couple of years to save it. DH and his coworker hit the lotto for 6 grand! We had our new roof and some pocket change!

@maximillian wrote:@Lisa Y What is a "tricky tray," please? I have never heard this term. Just curious.
A tricky tray is where you can win gift bags donated by the group sponsoring it. For example, if a school has a tricky tray, the parents would donate gifts of different levels of worth (tickets to a movie with dinner for two or maybe an upscale handbag). You buy tickets and put as many as you want in the basket for the item you hope to win. At the end of the evening, each basket of tickets is dumped into a jar and a winning ticket is called.

@Lisa Y I had never heard of tricky trays either. Thanks for the explanation. Sounds like a fun idea.

I won an Eskimo doll when I was about 10 and I won a sofa in a drawing at a furniture store.

I won a pen in 7th grade. The teacher had a drawing for something, can’t remember what drawing was about. I guess the correct number of whatever. The prize was the pen.
