! I now use Cologuard.

I agree...but Cologuard is not for those with family history of colon cancer. My dad & grandmother both had it, though surgery alone took care of it.

I've heard that Cologuard has a somewhat high rate of false positives--which means a colonoscopy would be need anyway to confirm. It can also result in false negatives, which means cancer would go undetected/untreated until it was maybe too late.

As awful as the prep is, a colonoscopy is the only "test" I know of that can stop cancer before it starts, by removing any polyps found. I had some removed in 2018, one or two were considered pre-cancerous. A follow-up in 2021 was clean. I am very grateful!

The way I look at Cologuard is...it's better than no test at all!

@mollymaggie.  I think your doctor would be the appropriate person to ask, not strangers on a shopping forum.

It's a free country and she can ask anyone she wants to. Free speech and the First Amendment say so. If she wants to have dozens of guns, shot guns, etc. and the Constitution says she can, then she can also go knocking on her neighbors' doors and get opinions on her colonoscopy.

BTW< I agree about the liquid prep: it's VILE

I too recently had this procedure, and didn't find the prep to be all that terrible.

One quart of liquid in the evening, and another quart in the a.m.

The nurse told me to set a timer on my phone for every 15 minutes, and to drink one cup of liquid in each 15 minute period.

In that way, the prep just took an hour, each time.

@sabatini

You were fortunate. Although, the drink was not bad with the lemonade mix added. I had to drink 3 liters the night before and 1 liter the morning of the procedure.

@icezeus  so glad I found someone who tried Crystal Lite. I remember the Pharmacist saying to use as much as I wanted but I think I stopped at 4 packs.

I prefer to do the Colonoscopy prep than doing a mammogram which I do every year but end up with Cervical Spine Pain up to a week later just from having to turn my head. Will check with my Dr to see if there is another way out. My head can only turn so far.

I agree with you about the mammogram.  What amazes me is that the technician puts you in an uncomfortable position and expects you not to move or breath.  They have to be kidding.  I would rather prep for a colonoscopy every year than have a mammogram every year.

@Jacie  there are other kinds of Prep. Talk to your Dr. As for me, I don't mind doing whatever Prep is best for me.

Like you said they can send people to the moon and all that other stuff and my question is why can't they find an easier way for us to do the mammogram? Twist this way, turn this way.

That reminds me I have to check with my Dr to see what else is available and if it's reliable. If someone could only come up with an easier way to do a mammogram.

So glad someone came up with the stand/sit idea of doing an MRI.

You should discuss this with your doctor re the prep. I can not get the Go Lightly down either & I informed the doctor. He gave me a much easier prep. I could drink the prep with 7Up or Gingerale. It was much less liquid & tasteless with good results.

You can’t not prep as the doctor can not visualize the colon; the doctor will stop the procedure.

Cologuard is not an option for high risk persons

@Stray  that happened to someone I know and she was all upset because the Dr stopped the procedure. Of course she blamed the Dr.

@mollymaggie- Some people have mentioned that they use Ducalax and Gatorade or Miralax and Gatorade.

My brother had his done a few months ago and he was given Ducalax and Miralax and I chose the Gatorage for him. I think I chose grape flavor and I tasted it and it tasted so good.
