It has a warning to keep out of the reach of children so it's probably harmful to birds. I'd rather put up with the little mess and have birds than take a chance on harming them.

good grief!!!

it does not harm them at all - it is just sooo sticky and messy that they do not want to be bothered with the area anymore.

Did you read some of the reviews posted? It has killed birds - they got stuck and died. It's not worth risking.

Re: birds on porch problem solved - with this!

We have a very real looking owl that moves it's head in the breeze. That pretty much does the job for us.

However, if you followed the directions for this product, it would probably be ok. Not enough to get them stuck. Just enough to annoy them.

Re: birds on porch problem solved - with this!

{#emotions_dlg.crying}From Amazon.com reviews:

"I put this gel along the outer edge of my roof as we had many pigeons sitting there, leaving their famous droppings all over the front of our house. While most of the pigeons really didn't like that sticky feeling on their feet and left, the shiny surface of the gel actually attracted some beautiful, small species of birds that had rarely been there before. Because of their small size and light weight, they couldn't get their feet out of the gel anymore and started flapping their wings, which got all entangled in this overly strong glue-like gel. As a result of their desperate efforts to get out of the gel, even their bodies came in touch with it, effectively gluing them to the roof. We were able to get them off (or should I say scrape them off as even their feet were now glued to their bodies), but they are destined to die as it is impossible to get the glue out of their delicate feathers. If you care just a little bit about animals, don't use this product - EVER! Get another product (such as bird spikes) that will solve the problem just as well, if not better, without torturing and (slowly) killing smaller birds."

"I bought this product thinking it was an adhesive for the spikes, it is not. It is used to actually trap the birds like a glue trap for mice. I feel this is very inhumane and will not be using it. I do not recommend this type of repellant, it doesn't know the difference between a Sparrow and a Pigeon."

"Very sticky. Bird got stuck on ledge and died. Definitely detered other birds from the area. I would buy again."

"I never even tried the Bird B Gone MMTBG Transparent Bird Gel because when I received it the instructions stated it could be fatal to small birds if they get caught in the gel. I immediately returned it. I love birds and merely wanted to discourage birds from pooping on my Victorian swing, but I am not going to use it knowing it could hurt small birds. Now I worry that how many birds may have been killed with the use of this product."

"I can't tolerate the thought of a bird struggling, and failing, to break free and then dying stuck to my mailbox. Not a wise purchase by me."

"This product works great as a bird repellent, but was not listed as a possible bird- killing, mess-making product, as it should have been! Although it seemed to ward off birds, leaving us with less droppings, it also collected bugs and other material in the air including COTTONWOOD Tree pollen, etc., on our railings, and a difficult MESS to clean up. There should be more truth in advertising with products that are dangerous to the environment, animals, and or other creatures!"

Oh dear. {#emotions_dlg.crying} I wish I hadn't looked at this. (like I REALLY wish I hadn't looked!) This just breaks my heart.

It breaks my heart, too, chickenbutt. There are other ways to handle the issue.{#emotions_dlg.sad}

This stuff is awful. Please read the Amazon reviews. Birds get stuck in it. It can glue their feet to their bodies and they die {#emotions_dlg.sad}

Even before reading the reviews, I thought this product would probably be harmful to birds. The reviews confirmed it. I would rather live with an "annoyance" than risk an animal's life. {#emotions_dlg.sad}

Tam have you tried that thin garden netting stuff, that looks kind handy, just drape it over the stake. Smile

I must have well trained birds lol. Oh and 4 cats! A beautiful pair of Blue Jays have nested in a cedar tree at the end of the drive, they are very smart, they know the cats wont go down there.

Have a nice day...

Thanks, I HAVE seen the netting, and this is the year I will likely try it- I don't mind "feeding" the birds a little bit, but I like some tomatoes for ME too! LOL! I tried tinfoil last year, along with the snakes, but it is hard to keep the tinfoil "attached"...

Hubby just found some heirloom Beefsteak seeds, cant wait. Yes, after all the loving care and the summer water rates it is nice to be able to have some nice payoff, yum...

How cruel. Beyond belief people can be this cruel to use this stuff.
