I could be in another room and I could smell it. I used to use natural ingredient sprays when I cleaned out her litter box, which is would clean 1-2 times a day (she has 3 boxes). Then because of a recent health issue we switched her food from Royal Canin Special 33 to Royal Canin Intense Hairball. There's been NO odor what so ever since we made the switch. AND no puking now for 11 days. That's a record. So maybe her food is the culprit.
Food can definitely effect the smell and consistency of the "droppings". Unfortunately Royal Canin has numerous grains in their foods, which are not healthy for cats. Three out of the first four ingredients in the hairball formula are grains: in order the ingredients are Chicken meal, corn gluten meal, brown rice, corn, chicken fat, natural chicken flavor, rice hulls, chicken, pea fiber, dried beet pulp (sugar removed), ground psyllium seeds, powdered cellulose
For the prices they charge for their food, they should have better quality ingredients. Kibble isn't good for cats anyway, and tends to dehydrate them and is implicated in bladder stone formation.

She went from 9.9 lbs down to 6.4 lbs. So as much as I agree that dry food is not the best for our little girl, I've come to the realization that her eating something is better than her eating nothing. Her vet agreed with me. She eats baby food thinned down with a little of water all day long. She gets her dry food from 11 am - 9 pm. She's been at 7.8-8.2 lbs for the last 3 years and her vomiting is now maybe only a couple times a week at the very most (she had been doing several times a day every day 4 years ago). She just celebrated her 17th birthday. Sometimes you simply got to do what you can and hope for the best. But back to the original topic, her litter box no longer smells. :-)On 7/11/2014 MrsT said: I stumbled across something I thought I'd share. Oh I know what you mean, I had one cat that was a kibble addict and wouldn't eat any canned food or raw no matter what I tried. I ended up having to feed her in a separate room from my other cats, who are fine on canned and raw but are happy to eat kibble if it's offered lol. We took her in as an adult and she just wouldn't be covered over.
