behind the scenes look from a guest vendor representative....interesting article

[ Edited ]

this is a very interesting, LONG article with a behind the scenes look at qvc and how guest vendor representatives get to be on air, the training they go through, and pretty much the entire process.

New guests focus on themselves, and the host, because we say "follow your host."  Our experienced guests tend to focus on the product. But our best guests are focused on the viewer. Is this for the viewer? Everything goes through that filter. And if you do that, everything comes out more naturally.

I Went On Air At QVC And Sold Something To America

To reverse engineer the secret sauce driving QVC’s $8.8 billion business, I went to the network's school, then sold a product on air.

It is BEYOND long!  I gave up and will try to finish it later.

"the radiant, middle-aged redhead who comes jogging across 50 yards of dim sets in high heels"  and the "post-menopaul saxsual tension" about SG cracked me up.

Wonder how Albany feels about that reference..."radiant, middle-aged redhead."

Funny how he was so self-conscious about his nails when many don't seem to pay that much attention.

Not sure I like this guy..."To many of us, QVC is a 1980s relic of grandmas and shut-ins....From day one, QVC's niche was the unhip."

Sounds clueless to me...All of my friends and I watched QVC in the 80's. We were pretty "hip" and hadn't even graduated from high school yet, so that throws out his grandma/shut-in theory.

Re: behind the scenes look from a guest vendor representative....interesting article

lol wow he sure gets alot of digs and jabs in there. Here are only a few:

"...QVC has personalities—27 hosts who are each responsible for selling hundreds of millions of dollars in products a year. They’re middle-aged. Often overweight..."

"At the end of the labyrinth, I hear two faint voices—QVC host Antonella Nester and fashion designer Susan Graver giving a live broadcast that’s reaching 100 million American homes. These two are on their game. Inside a cavern of darkness and silence, these QVC veterans are laughing as if they’re having the time of their lives. Gerald Bradley, a muscular male studio coordinator, walks into the frame wearing a Santa hat, bearing a big wrapped gift for the duo. His teeth gleam. They pull out a coat from the box, then pretend to fight to claim it. Graver lays on a bit of postmenopausal sexual tension, quipping about Bradley in comparison to her husband..."

lol, how does postmenopausal even fit in here?? And how does he even know she is?? lol

And read into this what you will....:

"Lubragge pulled up a slide with two photos of Charlize Theron. In one, Theron is Oscar-bait ugly, from the movie Monster. In the other, she has the sharp cheekbones of a high-fashion model. "It’s aspirational that Charlize Theron can go from Monster to lingerie model," Lubragge says, without a hint of a wink. Attainable aspiration is the core of QVC’s sales pitch."

This must be a fairly recent article since Alberti is there but some of these statements I don't even think ring true.

Very interesting article and validates alot of what I would expect, especially the part where they really try to make the viewers feel like they are part of their family. It is sad to me that so many actually buy into this. I feel badly for people who feel that these people, the hosts, really care about them. Smiley Sad

Re: behind the scenes look from a guest vendor representative....interesting article

This was a very interesting article from a viewpoint we never have. Being a guest vendor on QVC would never be on my list of must-have jobs. I got scared just reading it!

I was was surprised they shared that he sold 105 of the Halo items in the 8 minutes he was with Albany on Q-Plus, somewhere under $6,000 in sales. I also thought it was funny that he mentioned that this particular Halo item had received a multitude of one-star reviews.

A very enjoyable and insightful read!

I just think this is the stigma QVC has. The majority of people I know feel the same way, right or wrong. I get ribbed all the time from my friends-young and old- for hanging out on the QVC forums or buying from QVC. There is definitely a stigma there so in that he is correct.

I would love to be a fly on the wall in the room when Susan Graver reads the part about her PMS tension.  😜

The article is snarky and I wanted to slap this guy - he, with his smug countenance - slyly insulting both the hosts and viewing public.

He's such a twit. I'm guessing he has no intention of going back on QVC. If I had ordered one his Halo gadgets, customer service would be getting a call from me to discuss its return/refund.
