I was being facetious when I pulled the number 16 out of a hat. :-) It's clear that your intention in posting this was to impart the importance of the the words "No one owes you anything" to the rest of us.
Unfortunately, those words, which may have value for some, got completely lost in the context of the absurd and long-winded "gift" of a dad to his 9-year-old, which is what IMO most would be struck with when reading the OP and what most would be responding to.

To the OP .... This is a marvelous dose of realilty for anyone regardless of age. Does a nine year old have the ability to understand this concept? Perhaps some do not, but many do and will benefit throughout ther lives from the knowledge, rarely gained until many hurts have happened. I will share it and cherish the memory that my Father gave me this understanding at a very young age. It is a gift from which I have benefitted throughout my life. I was eight, moving from my school and friends to a new area where I knew no one. It was the gift I needed, and it changed my outlook and my life. Thank you Daddy for this and so many other things, and thank you OP for posting this as a reminder.

@SaRinaI thought you were being facetious.
And yes, just from the repetition alone of "no one owes you anything" most would understand the message and did and seem to have discarded it without even considering it.

It’s also not true. No one owes her anything? Her parents owe her food, shelter and other basic necessities of life.
If Daddy doesn’t think so, Social Services will be happy to set him straight or legally charge him with child neglect. If Daddy doesn’t want to provide for her needs, his wages can be garnished.
I guess there are different parenting styles. I hope most feed, clothe and shelter their children because they love them and not out of fear of the law. I hope all are kind to their loved ones in general out of love and not obligation.

@esmerelda Thank you. I plan on printing out, but not for some child or young adult. Rather for myself to read when I'm down, or being miserable and need a good kick in the butt. While I have learned all the things in this poem through out my life, sometimes it is a good reminder.

YOU said NO ONE owed anyone anything. That's not true, parents owe their children the basic necessities of life, and that negates your premise.
The subject was never parenting styles. You seem to want to change the subject, pretend it was all about something else, parenting styles.
The bottom line is, without frills or attempts at pretending the subject was something else: Parents owe their children the basic necessities of life. Period.
