12..Our family's printing shop...just one week a summer...the week before the shop shut down for week of 4th of July, their one vacation every year. We all came in to help with hand collating, stapling machine, (all automated now) wrapping packages.

After that, first steady paying job...a live, open-air, summer theater...usherette, box office, sometimes wardrobe when needed. Funnest job ever...many great summer memories there, from about age 16-21.

First job I had to lie about my age.  Worked at the candy counter of the dime store, also ran the big popcorn popper.  Always put an extra shot of ‘butter’ in every batch.  I’ve had at least one paying job since then.

I also worked in a live open - air, summer theater, doing virtually the same job!  It was SO great.

Did we work at the same one?

Mine was right on the Atlantic Ocean.

Wasn’t it a blast - and oh, the boys of summer!

@Drythe lol...mine was in CT, not on Atlantic ocean, but that sounds wonderful! Does it still exist?.

This was mentioned on another thread here and one of the ladies actually guessed where because she used to live in CT. It does still exist but was converted to an indoor, year-round theater in the late 90's. The original dome of the original theater is now the lobby of the bigger indoor venue. Don't like the type shows for the most part that are there these days, so I haven't been to it for a while.

Yes...the "boys of summer"...sigh. But mostly...we had a great group of young people who all bonded for the summer, had picnics together, went out after the shows. Sometimes the performers would do something, like The 5th Dimension played a charity soft ball game during the day and we were all invited, some of us played.

Was a great job. And I saw so many of the "greats"...Dolly Parton, Joan Rivers, Don Rickles, Paul Anka, Neil Sedaka, Four Seasons, Harry Chapin, to name a few, and many old country greats.

Re: Your First Real Paying job

I was 17, just graduated from high school and was a month from being married, I worked in a two person in the front, agent in the back State Farm office. The woman I worked with was ten years older than I was and today (at 55 and 65) she’s still one of my two dearest friends!

Babysitting jobs ...But at 15 I helped with inventories for JCP and a now defunct Department Store, Joske's......And at 18, I also did office tasks, mostly answer the phone, for an Attorney's Office....

OH!  My goodness, that is a famous one, must have been very special to see them perform!

Yes,  The Lost Colony, it is still there, along with the Vicious  Mosquitoes.

Re: Your First Real Paying job

My first job was at McDonalds working the counter. With a cash register that only rang up the amount I entered. We had to know the prices and figure out the tax ourselves. Had to write down the orders on a scratch pad. For $2.65 an hour. I felt I was rich come payday.
