Watching Fashion's night in, Courtney just asked the question  What was your first real paying job ?  My first real paying job was at age 15 I worked in the gift wrap department for Famous Barr  which is now Macy's.  Anyone else want to tell us your first real paying job and age ?

@Goodie2shoes @My first job was at 15 too. ( lied about my age for working papers!). I traveled by bus and subway to work in Manhattan at Alexander's Dept. Store 59th and Lexington (across from Bloomingdales) Started in the housecoat ! department but then moved to new candy kiosk selling Barton's candy. Great high school job and the perks were delicious! I made $1.50 an hour. I think the subway token was 10 or 15 cents.

Re: Your First Real Paying job

My uncle worked at the Post Office.  During the holiday rush  help was needed and my uncle asked if I was interested.  I loved working for the two weeks I was hired and loved getting a pay check!  That was a long time ago but I still recall the positive experience.

Re: Your First Real Paying job

I got my first paying job the summer I was 12. I baby-sat for a young couple that lived two doors down from me. They had two little boys. They went out almost every Saturday. They were always home by midnight and the dad would walk me home. I did that until I turned 16 and started working at the local amusement park in the summer. That was the summer of 1971 and I got paid 1.25 an hour. I was a waitress and we didn't make as much as the kids who worked the rides, games and concessions. I think they made 2.00 an hour. The biggest tip I ever got in the two years I worked there was $10.00 from a table of nuns. The babysitting paid better, but by then couple had moved.

Re: Your First Real Paying job

My first real job was when I was 16.  I worked at Karmelkorn at the mall (of course)!  The same owner had Tiffany's bakery next door and sometimes we would get to work there also.

It was a lot of fun

I was a babysitter for many years, but my first job at a place where you get a paystub was at Grant's department store in RIdgefield, CT as a Santa's elf over the holiday season.

Re: Your First Real Paying job

I washed dogs in my neigborhood from ages 12- 15 on the weekends and in the summer.  When I was about 15(?) I got my first real P/T job a cashier at a store called Floyd Bennett Stores.  It was similar to a K Mart.  Back then you actually had to read the price tags (no sku #'s or scanning) and had to make the correct change for each transaction, this was before credit cards.
