Medicare does not cover physicals.  They cover welcome to Medicare exams and yearly wellness exams.

The wellness exam is done to access a health risk accessment.

You first fill out  questioner with questions about depression, falling down, living alone, having financial difficulty and problems with dressing, bathing and eating.

It is during this wellness exam where you will be asked to draw a clock and place the hands at a certain time and the doctor will give you three words and ask to to repeat them back in order.

This exam is paid at 100% by Medicare.....free money for the doctor, so most of them do this exam.  It is not mandatory.

I've been on Medicare for 5 years and never had to draw a clock or repeat 3 words.

The clock dtawing is not a Medicare thing.  While it may seem like a ridiculous request it is a universal screening tool.

The aim of the clock-drawing test is to see if there is any loss of a person's cognition. In simple terms, cognition is the ability to learn, understand, and reason through experience, thoughts, and senses.

The clock-drawing test is able to detect mental decline as people with dementia often have problems reading traditional clocks. Reading clocks requires you to interpret the placement of the hands on a clock and the time they are meant to represent. This ability is often lost in people with early dementia.

I had my first Wellness check.

The assistant gave me a five component address and told me she'd ask me later what it was.  I'm bad at remembering addresses, that's why I always write them down or put them into my google maps!

Also had to name the months of the year backwards and say the alphabet backwards, as well.

And some of the other questions felt like the appropriate answer would be MYOB!

@taquito because that's something you use in your everyday life.

Yeah, I don't know that I ever could have recited the alphabet backwards!

My mother at 98, could always remember the 3 words and she had dementia! I didn't always remember them! I'm good at memorizing but not remembering! And brain fog doesn't mean dementia.

And re the clock thing. What if someone has dyslexia or something?
