FDA warns might be contaminated with Hep A.

What foods cause Hepatitis A?

You eat or drink food or water that has been contaminated by stools (feces) containing the hepatitis A virus. Unpeeled and uncooked fruits and vegetables, shellfish, ice, and water are common sources of the disease.Oct 22, 2017.

The candies were sold exclusively online and through QVC.

 In a statement, the President of Bauer’s Candies said that it voluntarily closed its facility and “discarded all candy in house, sanitized per protocol, and began working with Federal and State agencies” when it learned of the employee’s illness.

The employee worked at the plant from November 16-November 23rd. While the risk of contamination is extremely low, the FDA is recommending that anyone who purchased the candies after November 14th throw them away rather than consuming them.

I have never heard of Bauer’s Candies and was reading the same article that stated " famous Modjeskas, individually-wrapped marshmallow candies dipped in chocolate or caramel, came in contact with a facility worker who tested positive for the contagious liver disease. Customers who purchased the gourmet candies after Nov. 14 should throw the candies away, according to the FDA".  

The FDA says the risk of contracting hepatitis from the candies is low, but advises customers who ate the recalled candy contact their doctor to see if they need medication to prevent a possible infection.

Later in the article it talks about fecal matter is ground zero and I was a little confused as to the level of possible contamination by this worker.  Hopefully, this is just a precautionary recall and no one is gets infected with Hep A.

You would be surprised @zumka at how many people order candy and don't consume it all at once.  I order Enstroms chocolate every year and consume over time.

@GAQShopr53......I received quite a bit of candy for Christmas.  I have mine in the fridge.  No way could I eat all of that so fast.  Thank goodness none of it was this kind of candy......

That's bad. But it could have been worse...like getting sick with some really resistant type bacteria. HepA is relatively easy to treat and get over it.

A person who is elderly, or immuno compromised might not get over it quite so easily.

Did QVC  send out a notification to the QVC customers who bought the candy offering them a refund?

in items i have purchased from qvc that have been recalled, they usually send a letter, phone the purchaser, and send an email regarding the recall. qvc is very good about doing this. they usually have you either return the item OR they credit your account and make sure that you dispose of the item.

it is also listed on the homepage under their recall section.
