Re: Would you report a reckless driver?

We have reported reckless drivers on the highway, weaving and repeatedly cutting cars and semis off. You never know if they're under the influence and could cause a massive collision resulting in deaths. But, in your case, people cut other people off in regular street traffic frequently. But, if they are speeding through our neighborhood which has limited sidewalks but lots of kids and seniors, and posted as 25mph, you bet we report them. The cops here take the residential area speeding pretty seriously. They will set up speed traps within a couple days usually, they are also fairly aware of the usual suspects bombing around.

I've heard everyone should have a dash cam.  I drive very little, a mile here, 2 miles there.  My car is nearly 6 years old and doesn't even have 15,000 miles on it.

Would I report a crazy driver?  I am also one of those old dinosaurs that doesn't bring a phone with me all the time.  So probably no.  I've seen some crazy things on facebook.  People purposely causing accidents and having bad intent to cause damage and trouble.  It's a new world of which I'm really not up for at this point in my life.

I do have a road trip coming up and I'm nervous about it.  I go by myself and it's about a 5-6 hour ride.  A family member would tell me, "Just take your time.  You're in no hurry.  You'll get there about the same time anyway and its better to be safe."  I'm from the NE so getting from Point  A to Point B is always done as quickly as possible.

I say go with your gut.  If the situation was dangerous and you have the means to alert the authorities, do so.

Sometimes a person driving under the speed limit is a danger, too, @jellyBEAN.  Safe travels on your upcoming trip.

Yes, I would.  I would report anyone who is doing something wrong and harming others or potentially a harm to others as reckless drivers are.

@spiderw

Have you ever been caught up in a road-rage situation?  I have.  One night, as we were on a very darkish street coming from our son's house in the city, from a nice suburb, we were doing the speed limit.  Years ago when my husband was driving.  A man was ahead of us and was driving erratically.  DH thought perhaps he was sleepy or distracted and flashed the headlights onto his car, thinking that might alert him.  When he got to the traffic light, it was red.  He stopped.  We stopped.  He came from his car with a gun and wanted my husband to step out of the car and he was going to kill him.  I stepped out because I thought he perhaps would not kill a woman, while my husband is begging me not to.  I asked him if he would kill his mother or his daughter with a gun because they flashed their bright lights at him?  I tried reasoning with him.  Finally, I did but he was a very angry drunk.  So it is best  not to harrass people who are driving. This is not 1980.

You'd spend your entire rush-hour drive on the phone calling the police...if you were in Phoenix...    100 mph is NOT unusual on the freeway here...

@Desertdi

Lots of immigrant gang members in our area.  I don't want to be calling them in.  They leave their calling card with a knife or a gun.

Last week, I did call on a truck driver that had the Only handicap ramp blocked.  There was a number on the truck, hows my driving.  I was going to let it go, but the truck was there before AND after my dads appt. (Over an hour).   I was lucky he could walk around the truck, he has a rollalator, but someone in a wheelchair couldn't get around.  It was in front of a big medical building.   Rude!  And there for an hour, it wasn't 5 minutes.

@lynnie61

I agree with that.  Truck drivers should be held to a standard that makes it safe.  There was a time they were but when more non-union drivers became the drivers and they were not require to get a CDL, it is a reckless world of truck drivers out there but it's a moneymaker for big business who don't want to pay the high rates for union drivers who do not drink, drug or drive fast and who have no criminal record and can pass the CDL test.

Re: Would you report a reckless driver?

@Cakers3   I told reception at the eye dr.  There was no reception desk for the building.  It appears to be an office building (no security) or reception desk, just listings near the door.  There are non medical offices in there as well.  The reception at the drs office seemed to care less.

I only called when I saw the truck still there an hour later.  First, I even wondered why this truck driver would still be in the front of the building that long.

My dad managed, but I knew others may not have been able to.

What a frightening situation you were in, I am glad you all came out of it safely.  I understand what you are saying and I know how dangerous people are in cars these days. I am careful as to the actions I would take.  Thanks for sharing your story.

This is a stupid question

Is it to get a consensus or you have to go with the favor in order to make a decision?

My question to the poster, DO YOU VALUE YOUR COMMUNITY?

I would think a good neighbor should report reckless behavior on public streets

Ive done it and have no reservations

Get the license plate

Get a good description of the car

and driver

Then call your local police department and hand over what you witness

No brainer

Re: Would you report a reckless driver?

100% I would-----and have to say many other drivers would too---can remember a few times when crazy idiot drivers would go nuts on the freeways and then seeing how many normal drivers would slow down, get out of the way and be on their cells calling it in----I am so glad I don't drive anymore!!!!!!!
