Blaming the animals for their changing migratory actions? When it's we humans who have destroyed so much of their natural habitat and affected climate change. It's not as if the animals (birds, deer, whatever) had any say in the matter. WE needed to build more and bigger houses. WE needed to drain lakes and marshes so we could...yep, build even more on land that shouldn't have been built on.
Deer carry Lyme Disease? Do you know that the "deer tick", responsible for the spread of Lyme Disease, is actually carried on rodents, too? Generally field mice. When the mouse population booms, so does the tick population.
We just had five beautiful deer in our yard last night and we were thrilled to see them back after a long, hard winter. Two of the younger ones were gamboling about, full of the joys of spring.
I will never understand humans thinking we are the be all and end all. Having said that, if there is an "end all" to this planet, we all know who will be responsible and it's not the innocent animals.
Sorry to everyone who is inconvenienced by pesky animals. Imagine how inconvenienced they are by us, too!
We have lived in this house in the suburbs for over 30 years. Up until ten years ago, all we had were birds and squirrels. Now we have many herds of deer and turkeys that come every day. Sometimes a coyote or a fox and also the groundhogs.
This is is because of the constant clearing of forest where they lived to build houses, condos, etc. they have no where to go. They eat my plants but I try to make the best of it.

@Isobel Archer My sister lives near Valley Forge National Park and must drive through it to go many places. Talk about over run with deer... they have been thick there, like groups of 10-20 everywhere you looked. A couple years ago they did what the called "culling". They brought in some sharpshooters and killed dozens of deer. The last time I was through the park at dusk, I didn't see a single deer.
Most places outside the metro areas have hunting season which helps keep numbers in check. Naturally they can't allow hunting in heavily occupied areas as we'd be losing citizens.

@AngusandBuddhasMom The discussion is about wildlife.

Here in Colorado it is legal to hunt and kill Canada geese with a hunting permit during specific times of the year.

Canada Geese were a problem for turf farmers in this area so they placed life sized wood jig saw wood decoys that look like coyote or wolves. the cutouts are painted black and placed in the fields. this is a very rural area and there is no loss of habitat for wildlife. there are lots of isolated woods and ponds for them to live by

We have deer as well but with all the construction plus major highways; they are slowly reducing in numbers. That said,t he western part of the county is full of them.
I hunt as do my sons and friends of mine. Though we love venison, it's difficult to hunt these deer even though the county and state encourages hunters to go out during deer season. Why is it difficult? Because many of those who own the land (be it family farmers, commercial farmers or parkland) won't allow it. "THINK OF THE DEER". Ok, but then don't complain and whine that they are destroying your crops, your property, your CAR when you HIT ONE, etc. For us to hunt, we have to travel out of state most of the time and then you're competing with other hunters which brings its own danger to the situation.
Many of the natural predators of deer are no longer around due to the building up of the area so deer simply eat and multiply. They are beautiful creatures but the reality is, development is not going to stop and the deer population, if too large, makes it dangerous for them and for the citizens. They live among the houses that back to heavy woods and have some acreage (my house, for example) so hunting them is NOT an option. One buck services quite a few herds in my area. so you only see a few does and fawns at a time; they are, however, all part of one huge herd. People enjoy seeing them so they leave grain and hay out during the winter and well... round it goes.

Seems to me it was Canadian Geese that took down Captain Sully's jet that he had to land in the Hudson River a couple of years ago.

Yes I live next to a protected area and the idiot hunters try to kill the protected deer. Love watching them get ticketed by LE when they get caught. Big brave hunters with their guns going after defensless protected deer its disgusting.
