I remember hearing of her death on Sunday, June 16, 1996 ...   She died the day before ... I thought that she was then with the angels that bright, clear Sunday morning. 

Ella was and still is my all time favorite singer ... no one can take her place.

Pure and beautiful voice--happy centenary, Ella!  I loved her "scat" or jive singing, too. What a fluent, joyful sound.
