Who is a Winter, Spring, Summer, Autumn?

We can all agree that seasonal color theory isn't an exact science.  And now there are even more categories, like Soft Summer and Deep Winter, etc.  But remember, that roughly, Springs and Autumns have warmer or golden undertones to their skin, and Summers and Winters have cooler, "bluer" undertones.

But can you confidently slot different celebrities into their seasonal category?  I'll take a shot with a few people:

Emma Stone--   Spring   (I can see her wearing a sunlit kind of yellow, quite successfully)

Oprah Winfrey--  Probably a Winter?  Yet I have seen her wear tawny colors like light chocolate and burnt orange very well, so maybe she'could be a Deep Autumn?

Sarah Jessica Parker--  Soft summer.

Nicole Kidman--  Spring?  (Isn't she originally a strawberry blonde, mostly red?)

Mariah Carey--   Soft Autumn?

Courteney Cox--  classic Winter, like Elizabeth Taylor, Merle Oberon

Beyonce--  a deeper Spring, maybe Autumn?

Heather Locklear-- Light Summer

Prince Willliam's Kate--  sometimes she seems like a Summer, sometimes verging on a Winter.  But she must be a cool season, her skin and eyes are cool...

This is a hodge podge of people who come to mind.  Some are really borderline, and I'm guessing, b/c they don't always wear the right make-up and hair color for their season.

If you look at QVC,  Nancy Hornbeck (sp?) seems a clear cut example of a Winter to me, and Mary Beth Roe a clear cut Summer.  Some of the others are harder to "read".

Is there a point to all that?  Is it that "Colors" thing my mom and her friends were into way back in the day?  I was a kid but I think women actually went some place and paid to be told what colors they should wear.  Which sounds funny now but they did it.

I've thought about it, recently in fact. i can't tell my color. I never fit any one category. Maybe with the more colors I would. It helps to know what colors look good on you. I just have to trust what looks good to me.

Re: Who is a Winter, Spring, Summer, Autumn?

This reminds me of a funny story. Many years ago a friend of my Mom was upset after her husband ran off with another woman. I remember her telling my Mom the woman was an Indian and she kept referring to her as Princess Winter, spring, summer ,fall. I suppose considering what had happened that was a pretty mild name  to call her - had that happened to me I know I'd have much worse to say. But my Mom & her  friends were such proper ladies back then.

Anyway - the title to this thread reminded me of that.

This made me think about how women and perceptions have changed over the years.  Back then the wife would blame the other woman.  Today, woman woud place the blame squarely where it belongs...100% with the man.  The woman wouldn't even be an after thought.

More than once had the opportunity to go out with married man. Would never consider anyone married or involved. Imo both man and woman are equally responsible. Lack of values and simply wrong.

I am an autumn.

Shades of aqua and coral are my two most complimentary colors.

There are shades within every color ,that women can wear, no matter what season they are said to be

One season doesn't confine you to only a few colors

dimin, I think a lot of people feel like you, it's hard to tell.  Apparently, color theories as they apply to dressing have been around for over a hundred years.  Carole Jackson put forth a basic version of them in the 80's I think.

But since then there as been so much more developed.  The main things to remember are:  is your coloring primarily warm or cool, and is your level of "contrast" betweeen hair, skin and eyes, high, as in "high contrast"  or  "low contrast".

I love this "truth is beauty" site b/c it analyzes not only what colors enhance each group,  but also analyzes how your face and body tend to suggest your style type-- i.e.  Classic, Gamine, Natural, Ingenue, Dramatic, etc.etc.  She recognizes no one fits in one category, so has all kinds of "cross-catagories, like Classic/Natural, etc.

She also analyzes lots of celebs using these theories on the site, like Ellie Kemper, and tons of others.  That part I love!

My favorite color analyst Is David Zyla, who dresses lots of famous people.  He fuses color analysis with style archetypes, like "The Maverick",  "The Keeper of the Hearth",  "The Sensuous Backpacker",  and on and on.

I have his book, "The Color of Style"  where he goes into great detail on all of this.  If I can find a video later of him being interviewed I'll post.

It's all fun, and a lot of it is uncannily accurate...

I meant to say, rustee, I like the way your screen name "rustee" complements your Autumn coloring-- makes me think you might be a redhead...
