It was the same when I grew up too. No one wore gloves to fix any kind of food. There was a saying in my family - ‘You gotta eat a little dirt before you die.’
Perhaps it depends on where you live. I'm close to 60 and I cannot recall a time when people in icecream stores and the guys in icecream trucks did not wear gloves. Same thing with sub shops and delis most other food places. Good grief even the lunch ladies in school wore gloves.

@Carmie @I agree with you that food wasn’t handled correctly.I never eat the cone part of purchased ice cream.I also do not like to eat food after a server has cleared tables and then picks up my order without washing hands.I rarely eat out as I have seen too many things that creeped me out.
