NEW JIMMY HOFFA MATERIAL SOUNDS INTERESTING

13229745985_58f08b5baf_o.jpg

I never tire of famous, inevitably haunting "disappearance" stories, from the celebrated Judge Crater case, onwards.

This new perspective on famed Teamster figure Jimmy Hoffa and the foul play that caused his disappearance, sounds equally interesting.  Harvard Law professor Jack Goldsmith has written "In Hoffa's Shadow".  Interestingly, Goldsmith's stepfather, from whom he later became estranged, was Charles "Chuckie" O'Brien, a Hoffa protege.

Here's the kicker--  for years, it has been floating around that O'Brien was the very person of suspicion in the disappearance/presumed killing.  Goldsmith's book evidently disputes that.

I imagine the book must have been an emotionally wrenching one for him to write, as close as he was to the material.  He apparently had for years disowned his stepfather.  On top of all this, Martin Scorsese is coming out with his own film on the subject,  "The Irishman",  which stars the brilliant Al Pacino.

Two no doubt fascinating perspectives coming out in tandem-- should be good.

I want to see “The Irishman.”

Growing up near Flint in a GM family, I’ve always been fascinated by the Hoffa saga.

This kind of speculation is intriguing - just like, the JFK conspiracy theories.  Bottom line though, it is speculation.

I don't think they will ever find out. I recall people trying to dig up a freeway ,because someone said he was buried beneath it. They wanted the reward..He was a tough guy, and lived a tough life. He had his detractors as well as people that idolized him

When he went to jail, all of the truckers saluted him, along his route to prison. He did help them a lot, as far as bettering their working conditions, but he was a rough customer, and he hung with a rough bunch

Thanks Oznell.

I am going to definitely read "In Hoffa's Shadow".

My Mom's family all lived in the Dearborn MI area. My Dad's company moved to Philadelphia when I was little. So every summer we would spend the summer with my Mom's relatives. Dad got to stay in Philadelphia and work.

So we were in Dearborn when Jimmy Hoffa disappeared. It became quite the "talk of the town". I knew nothing about the man until then. But I am always curious to learn more.

The movie “Hoffa” back in the 90s was really good.  Jack Nicholson did a great job.

When I was in college in D.C. area, I had a summer job that was in D.C. and I took the bus up 16th street and always noticed the apartment/condo where Hoffa lived part time.  He was an interesting and evil character.

If Martin Scorsese is doing the movie, no thanks.  Not that he isnt the best, he is a fabulous director.  Just too violent, gory, and overly explicit  for me.  I have a creative imagination, I dont need all the over done details to get the point.  Lol
