Another NYer checking in. I live in Manhattan.
Born and raised here - but spent 19+ years in SF Bay Area - and moved back to NY in 1989.
I would never consider moving anywhere else. I inherited property out of state - but rent it out. I'd rather rent in Manhattan than live anywhere else.

I'm proud to say that I was born & raised in Brooklyn. When I married I moved to Long Island where I still live.I love the excitement & culture of the city.It never gets old.
I'm not a fan of Winter.I would clearly spend a couple of months a year in a warmer climate. That being said I love visiting & vacationing other places. But I doubt I would ever move. The only thing that would get me to leave the state would be if my son moved. He loves living here so I think we're staying put.
Hopefully, DH will retire soon. There will be a lot to keep us busy.

I have been to all of the cities listed except San Francisco, and I love them all for different reasons, but I really love love love Boston!!!! My sister lived there for years, after high school and she was 11 years older than I, so as a teenager I would go out in the summer for 2-3 weeks, and we would go all over, loved it! I remember saying I am going to move here. She met here husband there, he was from Boston, eventually after they retired they moved back to he Midwest(much cheaper)........
I would still love to live near Boston, but will have to settle for visiting my most favorite city!

Nicksmom!
My closest dearest friend was from Brooklyn. We met at our summer homes at northern NJ when we were teens and became close friends. Often during the winter months, I would visit her and I loved Brooklyn. I too came from the city but there was something exciting and special about Brooklyn. When my friend married she moved to NJ but always kept her Brooklyn "accent" and missed living there.
She passed a few years ago and I miss her every day. But I have those great memories of Brooklyn and understand your feelings about living there!

@ALRATIBA ...I left in 1965. My then husband was offered an engineering job in CA and off we went and lived there for 40 years until I moved to AZ in 2005.

Those are all such primo locations with intrinsic attractions. And so many local and municipal amenities. It makes sense that people who have the wherewithal to live anywhere would all compete to live there, driving up prices and bringing in bookoo tax revenue.
If you could live in paradise or just visit there, a majority is going to want to live there.
A big issue is, though, where does the staff live? How can the staff who makes the magic happen for the paying public afford their own lunch? I believe with all the brainpower located in those places, they can and will figure it out.

Always say, "You can take the girl out of New York, but you can't take the New York out of the girl."
Born in the Bronx, but moved to Queens-Flushing, Whitestone.
Husband from Brooklyn.
Living in South Florida over 40 years he still has accent. Ok, I do, too!
My sister is still in New York as are her children. Housing very high but so are their salaries. We were both teachers (retired in June). Her salary much higher and pension (plus covered health insurance) much higher than mine, even I taught many years longer.
Loved to visit Boston and San Francisco.
