@chessylady No it's not.

A small local bar/restaurant 'hole in the wall' had all their children working in the restaurant at some point during their young life.
They could not serve alcohol but did everything else. This restaurant was local hangout for police, fire and emergecy people as the owner was big in law enforcement....it was never an issue. Now one of the kids owns the restaurant.

I worked in my parents restaurant when I was a kid too. I wasn't allowed to cook or use the register. I mostly washed dishes and cleaned up.
I wonder how many people think it is ok to bring your child to work when it is not your business....you don't own it.
Business to do not allow employees to bring their children to work and do your job daily/nightly and break state labor laws.
McD's is not a mom and pop family business and owners of the franchise must operate within the laws and rules of their contract. It cost a fortune to buy a franchise. The owner was dumb to hire a crazy mananger and not keep an eye on them. It's gonna cost them big time.

Back to the title of this thread: "Where are the parents?"
Backs against the proverbial wall?
In prison?
Among the missing?
Drug addicts?
Amoral and/or abusive?
Mentally ill?
Some situations I cannot state here for obvious reasons.
We may be under the illusion that living here in the good old USA, everyone really does have equal opportunities to achieve and live a sterling life. Not everyone is equipped to go after and attain success. It's become a whack a mole existence for some. Plug one hole...another spouts up.

Tthere are many children being found working throughout the country now; chlld trafficking is a crime and it is flourishing due to the influx from the southern border. Many parents are forced to have their children work to pay off the cartels who have sponsored the coyotes to bring them across the border. It is heartbreaking to learn of what these children are being put through.
I know some parents who manage some restaurants have their own kids working with them at their own restaurant...but the child trafficking and forced child labor is a different and serious problem.

@RoughDraft - absolutely 100% ! Yes we have evolved as society (somewhat) but the struggle is real and a daily for way too many people in this country.

I think it is ILLEGAL!!!!

Parent or not, there are Child Labor laws and those laws exist for a reason! You can't put your child in danger and save on paying salaries just because you want to. How well do you think those babies performed in school after standing and frying burgers until the wee hours? Assuming they went to school. It was child endangerment, neglect and child abuse.

My understanding is that these are children from the border that get placed with people that should not get them. They are not properly vetted and it has become quite a human trafficing problem. This is something that is happening and people should be up in arms about it. There are many stories that are much more horific.

That's the question that needs to be asked so often today...where are the parents?
