******* Back in the 1950's we didn't have sex education in our schools. It was thought to be the parent's responsibility. Not the schools. Many parents agreed with that.

In 5th grade, after we watched "the movie" in school on womens personal issues. My Mom then explained everything else. (And yeah I was really awkward and shy at that age, and so it was quite embarrassing at the time!).

So my mother is ironing, I am about 9. She explains it, but the part that remains in my mind. I ask her how often this happens. She replies, "We do not make appointments." Great response. I went back to reading a book.

I was in the fourth grade and my best friend was spending the night and told me this stuff about "monthly business" I was dumbstruck. I just acted like I knew all with her but my Mom overheard so the next night I got the full deal conversation and information. I wanted to run screaming and hide. I did not know what was worse the monthly or what a man and a woman did together once married. Mom said it would be wonderful but when you are nine that is hard to believe. I bet she would have waited a while longer if I had not got told by my friend on some things.
My poor Mom knew nothing from my Grandmother. Went to the bathroom one day and found the evidence. My Grandmother took one look and walked out and sent one of my Aunts in to instruct my Mom on what to do. It was the '50's.
